Bloch Out: U.S. Special Counsel To Resign

Scott Bloch, a TPMmuckraker favorite who in July had said publicly that he had no plans to resign as U.S. special counsel, will in January do exactly that, reports the Associated Press.

It adds:

In 2004, Bloch was put in charge of the [Office of Special Counsel], whose mission is to protect the rights of federal workers and ensure that government whistle-blowers are not subjected to reprisals. But almost from the start, Bloch himself was a subject of investigations, including for closing hundreds of cases allegedly without investigating them and for allegedly retaliating against employees.

Bloch did investigate General Service Chief (and another TPMmuckraker fave) Lurita Doan, a probe which led to a wider invesitgation into whether administration employees were illegally working to support Republican political candidates.

But an investigation was launched by the Office of Personnel Management into Bloch's own conduct, after OSC staffers complained that Bloch intimidated and transferred employees who opposed his policies. Bloch was also accused of not protecting gay federal employees from discrimination. In April 2007, the FBI raided Bloch's office and home, after he had been accused of destroying evidence and lying to Congress during the probe.

Bloch told congressional investigators that in December 2006, he used $1,149 in federal money to have a tech company scrub his government laptop computer. He said it was dne to protect government and personal information.

When do any prosecutions begin?

user-pic

Tain't gonna happen. Sadly.

user-pic

Good riddens Bloch-head!

Um, wouldn't this clown be gone in January anyway when the new administration comes in? Considering that this guy has been shamed and scandal-plagued for the last two years or so, should we really be psyched that he's agreed to resign...in January?

user-pic

Yeah, I don't see this as anything more than good career planning by Bloch. Most top-level Presidential appointees clear out their desks around Christmas. I guess in theory he could be re-appointed by McCain should he somehow win, but if my career were on the line, I sure wouldn't be banking on that.

user-pic

Wow... I guess he can see the writing on the wall. I'll bet the day after he leaves he puts a healthy retainer down on a good lawyer.

user-pic

I bet Bloch will be added to the Bushie Pardon list - which I expect to be miles long.

The lout is no doubt leaving on Jan. 8th. Why is it that this homophobic pissant will not face charges?
I imagine it's the same reason that allows Cheney, Rove, Bush, et al to skip away. Meaning that REASON has nothing to do with anything on the other side of the looking glass.
Unbelievable.
Anybody else ever want to run around screaming in the street about what the hell goes on here?
The high-jacking of the government from top to bottom has no consequences...why wouldn't every bankrupt despot worldwide want to adopt the "American Way" that has now been realized by the Cheney/Bush gang?

INT. SCOTT'S OFFICE - DAY

SCOTT sits with his feet resting on his desktop, playing a Rugrats Hot Potato electronic game. His assistant, SMITTY, wafts around the spacious office, packing a cardboard box.

SMITTY:
(Taking a plaque from the wall) Wow... Remember this, boss? Top Rubdown, 2007. Order of the Oily Pec. Those were the days.

SCOTT:
Mmmm...

SMITTY:
I'm gonna miss this place. Gonna miss the whole set-up. No work. No pressure. All those long, massage weekends up in the piney woods.

(SCOTT ignores him; continues playing.)

SMITTY:
Ever gonna get back into government, boss. Sweet deal, seems to me.

SCOTT:
Next time, Smitty, we get into an even better racket. Even less work. And we are rewarded far in excess of our level of incompetence.

SMITTY:
High finance?!

SCOTTY:
You got it! (Game beeps) Hey! I got the potatah!!!

Please help me understand this.

Scott Bloch will “…resign when his term ends in January?

What the [insert favorite obscene word here]?

A. Who cares?
B. It is the end of your term, you moron! A resignation is meaningless. Sort of like announcing that you will quit when you are fired.
C. And, what is the alternative? Did you intend to stay, barricaded in your office, defending whatever from whomever?

Not only is Bloch clueless, ignorant and stupid, but he apparently feels compelled to state publicly that he is by issuing this announcement.

Unbelievable. These clowns cannot be gone soon enough.

user-pic

A little too late, but we'll take it.

user-pic

Hell, he would have been resigned in Jan anyway. What I would like to know is when will he be seriously investigated?

OT btw...I just realized why it will be harder for McCain and the repubs to steal this election this time besides more surveillance ...because so many republicans are not motivated to help him win...they too are beginning to believe he is a dangerous erratic choice. ("We are all Georgians now"...except this time he means the state) Thanks but no thanks
