Congress Daily: White House Fires Scott Bloch

Apparently there's more to Scott Bloch's resignation as head of U.S. Special Counsel that meets the eye. According to the National Journal's Congress Daily, Bloch was fired today in a meeting with White House officials.

From Congress Daily:

Scott Bloch, the embattled head of the U.S. Special Counsel, was fired today in a meeting with White House officials, according to several sources. Bloch is under federal investigation for possible obstruction of justice for destroying computer files sought by investigators in prior probe into whether he retaliated illegally against whistleblowers in his office. On Monday Bloch announced plans to resign on Jan. 5. OSC employees said Federal Protective Service employees barred Bloch from his office today. The agency has an all-hands meeting at 4 p.m.

Might he have been coerced to cooperate in a deep, hushed investigation which the Cheney somehow discovered?

Ok, removing tinfoil hat now...

But, you look so good in the tinfoil hat. Thinking of getting me one, if it will get one of those bastards indicted!

"The president appoints the OSC head for a fixed, five-year term. Federal law prevents the removal of the OSC head unless it can be shown that he or she engages in improper conduct or violates the law."

So, NOW, they find cause to fire him?

user-pic

"January 5, 2004, he (Bloch) was sworn in to serve a five-year term"

Bloch had sent the President a letter, yesterday, notifying his intent to retire on January 5, 2009 - the last day of his five year term.

Why couldn't the White House wait? The OSC does not serve at the pleasure of the President. He is appointed for a 5 year term.

What "improper conduct" or violation of the law was just found out about Bloch that necessitated a firing?

user-pic

Kabuki theater, perhaps? Sacrificial goat's blood, to benefit the health & longevity of Cheney?

user-pic

I think the simplest explanation is that today's meeting was scheduled on Monday and he put out the resignation with an awareness that today he was to be fired.

user-pic

Memo to Scott Bloch:

Too little, too late. As usual. You can't quit—or resign—now, buddy: you're fired!

So strange… Kabuki, is right.

HOMOSEXUAL SEX SCANDAL

that I have absolutely no evidence of.

I reckon it's just more evidence of the Bush administration's reverse-Midas touch...every fucking thing they touch turns to shit. McLame seems to possess the same..erm...talent. Good.

INT. SCOTT'S OFFICE - DAY

As a lonely offscreen harmonica plays "Londonderry Air", we see SCOTT emptying the last contents of his desk drawers into a battered briefcase: some files, a half-drunk pint bottle of Smirnoff vodka, a dartboard set, a small tin of Durex condoms, a squeeze-bottle of scented mineral oil labeled in an indecipherable alphabet, and, last, a photo montage in triptych style of Lurita Doan, Katherine Harris and Michele Bachmann - pictured as a holy trinity of GOP madonnas.

SCOTT squeezes his eyes shut and grimaces. For a moment, he appears on the verge of breaking down.

SCOTT:
Not gonna do it. Not gonna make me cry.

He look skyward and snorts loudly; he shakes it off. Still breathing heavily, he stuffs a stick of chewing gum in his mouth, then closes the briefcase and turns to the door.

INT. SCOTT'S OFFICE (HALLWAY) - DAY

Outside the door of SCOTT's office, we see SMITTY, his assistant, blowing the harmonica we've heard. He checks his watch just as the door opens and SCOTT emerges.

Idly chewing the gum, SCOTT watches SCOTT puffing away on the plaintive tune. Then SCOTT reaches in his mouth, grabs the gum, and, holding it in a pinch between his thumb and forefinger, pushes the gum wad into the middle of SMITTY's forehead.

SCOTT exits. Looking dumbfounded, SMITTY watches him go, the gum still pasted between his eyes.

Okay, so who is going to be running the office during the next 90 days, and what business is before them or might appear during that time? Or do they think that they'll have the time and political capital to get congress to approve a new toady of their choice after the election?

user-pic

Well......much to accomplish now that old pardon guy will not be in place.
Anyone not fully cooperating with the escape plan has to be moved asside......no matter what.
Now it's jail or no jail for many of these guys.
Anyone not following orders or hesitates is out.
Or in this case he may not be in position to get the job done as needed.
He may be already too dirty.

Something here's not adding up. First Bloch did the administration's bidding concerning whistleblowers but then launched an investigation into high-level irregularities at the White House that required access to "sensitive" documents. Later, he used outside channels to scrub the hard drive of his work computer and the FBI raided his home and staff computers. Someone at the White House is gunning for this guy and using every intimidation tactic in the arsenal. The questions we should be asking are "who?" and "why?".

After reviewing the older TPM posts on Scott Bloch, I think the answer is pretty clear: Bloch has the goods on Karl Rove. We're talking possible felony convictions for the U.S. Attorney firings, vote suppression, and who knows what else. Take a look at Paul Kiel's post on May 7, 2008 at 3:13 PM. Then read the rest of the posts. Expect criminal charges and a grand jury for Bloch to keep him silent.

(My apologies if this comment posts more than once.)

This man is a piece of crap. I hope he never finds a job and rots in hell.
