Indiana GOP Sec of State Helped Stop Florida Recount
Yesterday we told you about an effort by Indiana's Republican secretary of state, Todd Rokita, to press federal and state authorities to prosecute ACORN for voter fraud. Rokita had said a review by his office of forms submitted by ACORN found "multiple criminal violations."
But it turns out that Rokita hardly has a reputation as a non-partisan public official. In October 2002, the South Bend Tribune reported (via nexis):
Working on his own time, [Rokita] also assisted George W. Bush's campaign during the infamous Florida election recount in 2000. Rokita is proud of that, especially because the U.S. Supreme Court cited Indiana election law when it decided the election in Bush's favor.
In other words, Rokita was part of the team of ambitious young Republican operatives who flew down to Florida to help out on a bid to stymie the recount effort -- remember the "Brooks Brothers riot"? -- and ultimately put George Bush in the White House.
That background as a partisan knife-fighter is worth keeping in mind as Rokita seeks to stoke fears about voter fraud -- and, more generally, as he administers what could be a very close election in Indiana.

OOoh, it's getting scary! Like some political Poe!
Happy Halloween!

Mr. Conyers, this type of voter suppression should not go unpunished...or it will become our legacy....This is a person, Mr. Rokita (of interest) who should be investigated and perhaps punished, along with others involved...(Karl Rove comes to mind)..after the Democratic "sweep" in the coming election...lets see them ignore a subpoena after January 20th, 2009...!

If they can cobble together enough close states to throw the election into doubt, they will do it.

I knew all along that the Republican's best chance to win, would be to steal and surpress the votes. They have proven me to be right once again. I do hope that one of the first thing that the new administration put in place--no matter who wins, is a national election process and procedure, this would make sure that the process is more secure and less likely to have partisans surpressing votes for their party. Nationalized is the only way to keep our voting rights safe from theives and cheats.

Paul Weyrich delivered the Republican game plan back in the 80's and they keep finding new ways to apply it:
"I don't want everybody to vote. Elections are not won by a majority of the people. They never have been from the beginning of our country and they are not now. As a matter of fact, our leverage in the elections quite candidly goes up as the voting populace goes down."

Does anyone remember the problems getting the vote total, on primariy nite, in Lake County Indiana?
40 people walked off their tele-marketing jobs this week, in Lake county, refusing to read the Republican script, deaming it to offensive.
Robo calls are not allowed in Indiana.
My point is this. If votes can be surpressed, in any fashion, or the election stolen, it will be happening in Northwest Indiana, which is next to Chicago.
Indiana has not voted Democratic since 1964. The Republicans will not give this state up easily.
Vote early.
God Bless America

Mr. Rokita spent the last election in Southern Indiana trying to suppress the vote by making false accusations concerning absentee ballots. But, Few know that the real reason he was here was to get the press off of his very very close friend, Mr. Glen Murphy Jr. who was the County Republican Chairman at the time. Mr. Murphy was under investigation for numerous sexual attacks on unsuspecting sleeping young men. He is currently incarcerated in the Clark County jail.

The thing about Lake County, Indiana is that if someone is going to steal an election there, it would be the Democrats.
If the Republicans want to steal Indiana they will have to do it somewhere else, most likely Indianapolis.
I'm still amazed that the results out of Lake County in the primary didn't raise more eyebrows. It sure looked to me like Hillary stole the Indiana primary by adjusting Lake County vote totals. But what do I know?
