Inouye on Stevens: He'd Never Tell a Lie
Sen. Ted Stevens' motion-to-dismiss prone attorneys kicked off their defense today calling Hawaiian Sen. Dan Inouye to the stand.
Inouye testified as a character witness, telling the jury that he's "never heard of [Stevens] lying under oath."
Inouye, a senator for 45 years, has been a longtime friend of Stevens. He is apparently known as "Uncle Dan" to Stevens' children and called a "brother" by Stevens, the AP reports.
Whether or not Stevens will take the stand remains to be seen. Former Secretary of State Colin Powell is expected to testify tomorrow.

Thank god that clown Inouye will be gone in 2010.
Maybe we get a Senator Soetoro-Ng out of it? A man can hope...

That's not the same as saying he would never lie.

Senator Inouye is the grand patriarch of the Democratic Party of Hawaii, and is revered by many.
But—and, take this from a long time former constituent who was raised, educated and worked in Hawai'i—he is not known by the moniker 'the one armed bandit' for no reason at all. One would have to look far and wide for an individual I believe is, and always has been, one of the most corrupt members to ever sit in the Senate.
It's a testament to his friendship with Senator Stevens that Senator Inouye would stand up for his longtime friend, but it's no recommendation as to the character of either Senator, believe me.

Well said Michael.
Those 2 have been in the Senate for waaay too long.
Its time to clean up ! I hope the jury sees through it. Team Stevens is not representing mr. bridge to nowhere cheap and they've used all the tricks to get him off. Of course I know its their job, but Ted played the game of 'disclosure' like finely tuned Steverius.
And Inouye is another one whose been there way too long. Term limits!

"North helped draft the plan to impose martial law while serving as the NSC's liaison to FEMA " and while being questioned about it by Rep. Jack Brooks from Texas , he was cut off by..drum roll , Sen. Dan Inouye .
So no wonder North got off with all his crimes during Iran/Contra , he got help from complicit politicians from both sides of the isle .
Sen. Dan Inouye is part of the same CABAL .

Lest anyone forget, Inouye was the chair of the Iran/Contra investigation who silenced Dem Jack Brooks when he asked Oliver North about his plan to suspend the Constitution during a national emergency.

But Stevens hasn't given his oath. They haven't decided whether he will testify. If they want that endorsement to bear weight, they'll need to put Ted under oath and let the tough questions be asked. One thing that seems apparent to me is that for a very long time Alaska has had a different attitude to honesty in politics. Alaska is the only state in the Union with a huge budgetary surplus as most other states are struggling mightily. And in this environment, Uncle Ted has been hauling home the pork for decades. And Alaskans don't seem to care that there are people in other parts of the country who are going without essential needs so that Uncle Ted can just keep on bringing home the bacon. I've been on the blogs in Alaska most days lately. There are some who want accountability, but there are many who don't care if Ted is honest just so he keeps bringing home the money. Taxpayers from all over the country pay for the things Ted brings home to Alaska while Alaska uses it's own money to give cash refunds to citizens instead of building it's own roads and bridges. Be a crook just so your're our crook and we'll stick with you seems to be the attitude of many.
