Ohio Dems Push Back On White House Call For DOJ Action On Voting
Last week, the White House asked the Department of Justice to take action on an effort that could force tens of thousands of new Ohio voters to cast provisional ballots.
Soon afterwards, a group of Ohio Democrats, led by Sen. Sherrod Brown, announced in a press release that they had written to Attorney General Michael Mukasey, urging him not to intervene in the issue.
Wrote the Democrats: "The eyes of the nation are once again on Ohio in this critical election, and there is no room for partisan politics that seek to erode voter confidence in Ohio's election system."
The U.S. Supreme Court had earlier rejected an effort by the GOP to require the Democratic Secretary of State, Jennifer Brunner, to provide local election officials with information on newly registered voters whose registration information does not match other government records. Democrats fear that giving that information to local officials could allow Republicans to mount challenges to eligible voters, with the result that many could be forced to cast provisional ballots.
In addition to Brown, the other Democrats signing the letter were Reps. Marcy Kaptur, Tim Ryan, Zack Space, Betty Sutton, and Charles Wilson.

Just one more reminder of how sweet it will be to have these shameless, dishonest thugs out of the White House. 84 more days according to my Bush Countdown Clock. And what a difference between Jennifer Brunner and Ken Blackwell in Ohio.

Love the Sherrod Brown!!!
I've been waiting for someone to mention the implications of giving the GOP voter names... That's the main reason they want Obama to make the small donors names public although the FEC has their info . Simply so they can challenge their votes.
It really makes me sick how dirty the GOP is.

What is truly sickening is that the GOP is still very capable of stealing this election, not through voter fraud but through vote tampering.
I'm thrilled that Ohio is in the Obama column, but I fully expect that the exit polls will show the landslide voting for Obama but those pesky magic touchscreen voting thingies all hooked together with that marvelous vote counting database (still based on MS Access) will tally up a McCain win -- just like 4 years ago.
Still I hope and pray that somehow the criminal GOP voter suppression, vote tampering, and all around election shenanigans will not be enough to defeat the Obama juggernaut.
Yes We Can!!!

The big diff this time around is that we have a Democratic Congress (that's House and Senate), and will have and even bigger one come Jan 3rd. So if the leadership wants to stay in the leadership, every one of these fishy operations will be investigated before a state's electoral delegation's votes are accepted.
Or Nancy and Harry are gonna be on the outside looking in come January.

The other day, a poster expressed concern about the prospect of Rethug dirty tricks at the polling booth. A lawyer wrote in from, I think, Virginia, saying that he and his colleagues were members of a state-wide organization of Democratic lawyers and that they would have a team at every single polling station in the state. He said they would have two lawyers ouside and one inside, to ensure no hanky-panky ensued. I'm pretty sure a campaign as competent as Obama's have seen the possibility of this sort of thing coming from a long way off. They're gonna be ready. You better believe it.
And as Cal says, there's no question that the Dems are going to have a majority in both houses, no matter what. Is some bozo like Mukasey really going to risk time in Leavenworth just for the sake of administering CPR to the corpse of the Repug party? I mean, he fucking knows that they'll come after him and anyone else if there's even a hint of the usual crooked shit from the Repugs.
Let's face it, the Repug rats are already deserting a sinking ship. Who's dumb enough to risk jail time for an asshole loser like McCombover? I don't want to be complacent, but I've got a good feeling about this. We just need to work twice as hard this week...

I will be working the polls this year and plan to have my notebook ready for ANY tampering I see.......from either side. But I'm relatively sure that I won't see it coming from the leftwingers. But just ion case YOU are tempted....keep in mind, I might be watching!

Ohio has certainly learned from the 2004 election and I am feeling like they aren't going to let this election be stolen from the voters!

I hate to type this, but I fear the Supremes will hang with who brought them to the party on this one. I wouldn't be surprised if it gets fast tracked. Hope I'm wrong.
