Rogers Denies Breaking Law, But Not Hiring P.I.
We're late to this, but Pat Rogers -- the lawyer tied to the New Mexico GOP, who has been accused in a federal lawsuit of being behind a plan to intimidate voters -- has denied that he broke the law.
"I have not violated any law and Mr. Romero has not violated any law," Rogers said yesterday evening when reached by the Associated Press.
Rogers was referring to Al Romero, a private investigator. According to a lawsuit filed earlier this week by MALDEF, a group that advocates for the rights of Hispanics, Romero went to the homes of several Hispanic voters in Albuquerque to question them about their right to vote. The daughter of one of the women has said that Romero told her he was working for Rogers.
The visits were reported last week by TPMmuckraker and others.
Speaking yesterday to the AP, Rogers continued: "The lawsuit contains serious accusations that have no basis in law or fact. The suit is filed and advertised before the upcoming election for obvious purposes." He did not elaborate.
It's noteworthy that Rogers did not deny hiring Romero to contact voters about their eligibility -- as he did not when asked last week by the New Mexico Independent.
Reached this afternoon by TPMmuckraker, Rogers declined to discuss the case, saying he was too busy working on the election.

With a name like Mr. Rogers, you would think he would be in favor of a beautiful day in the neighborhood - not so much!

Oh, really? What else are you doing to "work on the election," Rogers? FULL DISCLOSURE.

Why don't these sick white male Republicans mind their own business. If they aren't trying to outlaw choice for raped 14 year old girls, they are harassing elderly Hispanic women about voting in an election. I hope he enjoys his day in court.

How has this man not been taken before the NM bar and disbarred? There needs to be real consequences to these types of actions.

I glanced through the last two FEC reports filed by the Republican Campaign Committee of New Mexico from September 1 to October 15. Pretty interesting stuff.
A lot of money is flowing into the NM GOP's coffers from right wingers like Mr. Swiftboat himself, Bob Perry. The RNC has transferred several hundred thousand dollars to New Mexico.
Pat Rogers and his law firm was paid $10k in October. Dollars to doughnuts, the money was used to pay off Al Rogers, private investigator and voter intimidation goon.
What is hilarious is that the NM GOP hired an consulting firm directly linked to Nathan Sproul to register voters. Sproul is the the most notorious voter registration fraudster in recent history.
Pat Rogers has some frigging nerve complaining about ACORN if Sproul's crew is on the GOP payroll.
Here's what I know so far. In September, the NM GOP paid $100k to Taos Consulting, LLC which was registered in June '08 by Meghan Cox. The purpose of the expenditure is listed as "Voter Registration, Table & Door-to-door."
A quick search turned up Mehgan Cox, Consultant, Sproul & Associates, who contributed $3k to John McCain last February.
Unfortunately, I don't have time right now to check whether the NM GOP paid fees to Taos Consulting before September.
You have to wonder what kind of dirty tricks Rogers and his merry band of crooks will try to pull off on Election Day.
