Conyers on Obama Aunt Leak: "Very Disturbing"
Rep. John Conyers, the chair of the House Judiciary Committee, has responded to the Bush administration's leak of information on the immigration status of Obama's aunt.
In a hastily written letter, Conyers makes the same connection that we did with the administration's leaking of information on the FBI's nationwide investigation of ACORN. Both leaks went to the Associated Press, and appear to have been done for political purposes.
There's some other news in the letter in regard to that leak about ACORN. Conyers writes:
[I]n recent weeks law enforcement sources leaked information about an alleged investigation of a community services organization, a leak that the Department of Justice informs me is now under investigation by the Department's Office of the Inspector General and Professional Responsibility.
So, two internal DOJ offices are looking into the ACORN leak. That's certainly worth keeping an eye on.

Dear Mr. Chertoff:
I was startled to read in today's Associated Press that a "federal law enforcement official" has leaked information about an immigration case involving a relative of Senator Obama. Even more troubling, the AP reports that it could not "could not establish whether anyone at a political level in the Bush administration or in the McCain campaign had been involved," a very disturbing suggesting (sic) indeed. This leak is deplorable and I urge you to take immediate action to investigate and discipline those responsible.
I note that this is not the first leak of law enforcement information apparently designed to influence the coming Presidential election -- in recent weeks law enforcement sources leaked information about an alleged investigation of a community services organization, a leak that the Department of Justice informs me is now under investigation by the Department's Office of the Inspector General and Professional Responsibility.
Such leaks are deeply harmful to the political process, and the American people expect and deserve better from their government and its law enforcement agencies.

Senator Obama has never been close to his father's side of the family and in fact only spent real time with his father when he was 10 years old. That kind of family story is more common than you might think, and I in fact have cousins that I would not even recognize if they spoke to me on the street.
The extraordinary racism that is on full display by the republican party is disturbing in and of itself, but the forces inside of this government who would violate policies and laws to try and stop Senator Obama from becoming president is as dark and sinister as it appears. Instead of hacks trying to purge voters, it is evident that we will need to spend years purging the DOJ and other departments of the cancer of the right and far right hacks placed in positions of power by the Bush administration.

Just as this campaign is worse than '04- as truly bad as that one was!- because of the more dire fortunes of the Republican party, the next campaign- whatever campaign that is- will be worse than this.

What people really should be focusing on is the Bush administration's abuse of power. Far more of a threat to the Republic, than a 56 year old auntie, whom Obama barely knew.

Well it shows that if you invite an illeagle alien to you confirmation it doesn't matter.
If you have a racist paster who you listen to for 20 years it doesnt matter.
if you associate with former terrorists it doesn't matter.
if you have convicted friends who give you sweet deals on land (Rezco) it doesnt matter
If you want to redistribute wealth fromthose making 250,000 or 100,000 or 40,000 it doesnt matter. because all of us should contribute more to the government.

Did you happen to notice the red dotted line under many of the words in your post? That's the signal that you've misspelled something or have a typo. Most of us pay attention to those cues.
What's good about your carelessness (or illiteracy) is that it is an apt complement to the quality of your comment.

Facilitatrix, don’t be so hard on Thomas. You may doubt is spelling and grammar, but try and understand Thomas. His writing displays the classic example of a streaming conscious thought process and likely based on his limited behavior system.
Thomas wants us to question ourselves. Ok, fair enough. We have done that for 2 years. Bottom line Obama is creditable. Even McCain on October 10, 2008 told the old woman in a town hall meeting, “Obama is a good man, a decent man, a citizen,” followed in the next sentence, “You don’t have to be afraid of him as President.”
Thomas you must know all this right? You are sharp enough to toss out all the personal attack whack job talking points. So what’s your game?
Thomas, aren’t you telling the TPM community that you can not cope with the current political level playing field? Thomas don’t you really need to deal the cards from the bottom of the poker deck in order to exhale your own penned up hatred before you suffocate yourself?
Thomas, do you and your clan brethren feel threatened just now and worry your hold on power is slipping away. Thomas makes it easy for us to read between his lines and understand that voice he hears inside his head has no need for the rules of punctuation, reason, reality, or civilization. Thomas be honest with yourself. Don’t you deep down believe the Second Coming is so close and pray for Pres Palin to get her finger on that launch button so you can be with your Space Pop? Isn’t that what bums you out because the dream might not happen now?
