DOJ Releases Hatfill Documents

The Associated Press reports:

The Justice Department has released hundreds of documents that it used to falsely accuse scientist Steven J. Hatfill of masterminding the 2001 anthrax attacks.

The documents were unsealed Tuesday following last week's federal court order to do so. They show the FBI seized clothing, financial records, VHS tapes, books and other papers from Hatfill's home in Frederick, Md.

Hatfill originally was named a person of interest in the anthrax attacks. But the Justice Department cleared him last summer after switching its focus to another suspect, Bruce Ivins.

Some of the court documents can be found here. We'll bring you the rest as soon as DOJ makes them available.

The New York Times and Los Angeles Times had sued to have the Hatfill documents released.

Late Update: Here are more of the documents.

Now that Tom Daschle is returing to government, I wonder how this is going to unfold. I'm not sure I would say I am looking forward to it as I have a cynical side that believes it was an inside job and those connected are still in the WH at this time.

Just be thankful our intrepid DOJ gumshoes stopped Mickey Mouse from voting.

Goes to show no matter how many documents the FBI piled up, it still couldn't make the case against Hatfill stick.

I don't have time to read through the docs in the Ivins case but I verified what I could re events in the last few months before Ivins died. The FBI has been less than forthcoming, imho.

For example, I searched Maryland court records the other day and it looks like some records may have been deleted from Jean C. Duley's online file since I first reviewed them. Duley, of course, is the active alchoholic who was "counseling" Ivins in group and individual sessions.

In August, I had made a comment online about a discrepancy in Duley's court records:

"In April 06, her address was Bower Ave which is her current address. But in 10/06, six months later, the trial record lists her address as Hampshire Drive which was her address in 2005."

The April 06 arrest record isn't there nor are there any from 2005. I probably saved them somewhere and I'm going to dig them out when I have time.

I doubt the patients in the group sessions were real patients.

Dr. Allan Levy is the psychiatrist who owned the practice and the office suite where Ivins went for counseling. Before going into private practice, Levy was with a VA hospital in West Virginia.

You think Levy didn't know Ivins was being followed by the FBI and why? More than likely, he was the one who prescribed medication for Ivins.

Too bad we don't have the field report on Jean Duley's call to the Frederick police when she reported he had made death threats.

More to come.

When I read the contents list from the Hatfill storage unit in Florida, I felt a chill run down my spine. Did anyone at the FBI even understand the significance of what they found?

What were the contents? Link?

And what we need to keep in focus here -is whomever did this committed homicide -several times. How many did die from the anthrax- several right- It was even interstate -remember the paper in fLORIDA also was attacked ..
Maybe Hatfill is mad enough about his sullied reputation that he will take some of that settlement money and hire out his own team to investigate aspects of this this plot yet unreported but in the public record...
