Ohio and Minn. Sec Of States: No Reports Of Voter Fraud
Since we're rounding up the evidence (or lack thereof) of voter fraud taking place yesterday, it's worth also noting what the top election officials in Ohio and Minnesota told us on Tuesday night.
Ohio secretary of state Jennifer Brunner, a Democrat, said in a statement released toTPMmuckraker the night of the election: "We have received no reports of election irregularities in Ohio today - and we have been on the lookout for any hint of illegal voting or voter suppression."
And her counterpart in Minnesota, Mark Ritchie, also a Democrat, told TPMmuckraker in an interview that his office had received no reports of voter fraud.
In both states, Republicans or their allies had raised concerns about the possibility for fraud. Brunner had reportedly received death threats after she fought a GOP lawsuit aimed at cracking down on voter fraud. The Supreme Court sided with Brunner.

Rampant voter fraud is threatening the very fabric of our Democracy!! What? Oh. Never mind.

Don't forget, from the Republican point of view, voter fraud is when Democrats get to vote.

No doubt these are two partisan Democratic hacks covering up tons of vote fraud on behalf of their party. ;)
Broken record: a top priority of the first year of the new Congress is to pass massive Election Reform, including National Voter Registration and easy to obtain National Voter ID's tied into something already existing like Social Security. If we keep leaving this up to the states, the GOP will continue to work on Supressing the Vote.

tosh is right. Brunner and Ritchie are two Democrats dedicated to non-partisan administration and maximizing participation, but it shouldn't depend on which party controls the machinery of elections. Unfortunately, Ritchie is going to get intense scrutiny during the recount, and Republicans here have been gunning for him anyway. Ritchie has said the recount standard will be every vote where the voter's intent can be discerned, and technical errors by voters are not to be considered.
Off-topic somewhat, but will there be recounts for the presidential races in Missouri and North Carolina? It seems in principle there should be when they're so close, even if they won't change the result. Every vote should be counted.

He is simply asserting the reasoned standard that it is stipulated in electoions laws, such as FL's. If one can discern the intent of the voter, it's a valid vote.
"Technical errors" can cover a lot of ground. Certainly not all technical errors can be ignored, especially where specifically stipulated in the law as required. Not usually a major issue, but can be in very close elections.
Interesting: the Democrats achieved 57 seats in the Senate. And at present, two Senate races are too close to call, and one will be by run-off.
