RNC Ready To Sue Over Computerized Voter Fraud?

Is the GOP now laying the groundwork for claims of computerized voter fraud?

The computer forensics company Forensicon just sent out the following press release:

Republican National Committee Prepares for Computerized Voting Fraud Legal Battle

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwire - November 4, 2008) - Forensicon, Inc., a Chicago-based computer forensics company, was contacted last Thursday by a security firm lining up vendors to assist the Republican National Committee with consulting related to potential allegations of computerized voter fraud. It has been widely reported that electronic voting machines in many states are vulnerable to hacking by anyone with the right equipment and a few minutes' access to the voting machine.

Yesterday, noted Chicago resident Oprah Winfrey attempted to cast her vote for her candidate, but the vote failed to register correctly.

It has been widely reported that electronic voting machines in many states are vulnerable to hacking by anyone with the right equipment and a few minutes' access to the voting machine with a handheld computing device. The lack of printed voting receipts in many of these systems leaves the election ballots in many areas vulnerable to rampant fraud and abuse.

"If the election returns vary significantly from the polled numbers in any precincts that proves crucial to the election outcome, I expect that a legal struggle over the validity of the election results will ensue," said Forensicon's President, Lee Neubecker.

The Republicans are planning to file suit over this?

Next: Willie Sutton comes back from the dead to sue banks over lousy security.

If anybody knows how it is done the RNC sure does. Ohio is still trying to see what hit them in 2004.

Wait...Oprah Winfrey tried to vote YESTERDAY? Ummm...early voting in Illinois closed last Thursday.

Good. Let them destroy the Republican party once and for all by looking like a bunch of sore losers.

oprah did vote last week. she talked about it on her show. i'll be pissed if the dems allow the repubs to initiate the voter fraud/suppression issue and use oprah as a poster child.

The story says yesterday. If you're sloppy about one fact, what does it say about the rest?

GOOD! Maybe we can use this to get bipartisan support for electoral reforms.

* make Election Day a national holiday

* provide early voting options in all 50 states

* require verifiable, non-electronic audit trails for all voting technologies

Is this the height of irony? Presumed Republican allegations of electronic voter fraud? Now, they've really jumped the shark!

As was pointed out earlier, if anyone at all knows how electronic voting manipulation is done, sure it is the Republican National Committee. It's going to be a long night, I imagine. And, a few long weeks…

I doubt the GOP will rely on a gay Democrat from Chicago to make the case for computer voting fraud. I'm pretty sure Mr. Neubecker is doing some self-promotion.

That said, I've long thought that the collaboration in 2000 between Global Election Systems and Soza & Co., a defense contractor, in resulted in some Florida voting machines being rigged.

Global Election Systems, a publicly traded company, later sold out to Diebold.

Soza & Co. was bought by Perot Systems in 2002 after being awarded a major contract from the state of Ohio.

The company's web site claims no expertise in electronic voting and potential manipulation thereof.

"Forensicon concentrates almost exclusively on Intellectual Property matters such as trade secret misappropriation, internal investigations, employment litigation, anti-trust, and unfair competition. Forensicon can begin with an internal investigation prior to possible litigation, and can provide complete support throughout the litigation life cycle.

The company also does a significant amount of work as a neutral third party appointed by the courts to find the truth, or as the agent certifying that one party has removed all property owned by the other party from their computer networks."

There are quite a few people and organizations that have established their bona fides in this area, such as David Dill at Stanford, Avi Rubin at Johns Hopkins, and more.

If Forensicon needs work in their areas of specialization, maybe the new administration could hire them to recover all of the missing e-mail files from the White House and the Vice President's office.

I absolutely 100% support the thorough review of these systems using independent sources. I think that they greatly undermine confidence in the electoral process. I just wish it didn't take having a Democrat win the presidency for the RNC to call for a review. This is something that should be a non-partisan concern, regardless of election outcome.
