Fitzgerald: "The Conduct Would Make Lincoln Roll Over In His Grave"
At a press conference to announce the charges against Blagojevich, Pat Fitzgerald said:
But the most cynical behavior in all this -- the most appalling -- is the fact that Governor Blagojevich tried to sell the appointment to the Senate seat vacated by President-Elect Obama. The conduct would make Lincoln roll over in his grave.
Here's the video:
It's good to have America's favorite prosecutor back on the scene.

With a blithering idiot like George Bush, you can kinda see how he succeeded in politics: family name, family connections, childlike certitude in conservative received wisdom. With Blago, though, what gives? He knew his phones were tapped and he does this anyway! How is this guy even breathing let alone governor of Illinois? You'd think anyone this stupid would have driven into a lake or fallen off a building or something by this point.

I was thinking maybe some sort of fork-in-toaster death myself. It's truly a cartoonish level of corruption. This is why a one party state is bad--it allows complete idiots to be re-elected. At least give another Republican a chance to be indicted.

Blago got the job because his father in law is Alderman Richard Mell, one of the most powerful men in Chicago politics.

Was Fitzgerald actually considered for AG? He strikes me as an Elliot Ness type of guy.

You mean an antisocial zealot destined to die alone in a penniless drunken stupor?

I doubt Fitzgerald was considered for AG. He's a great prosecutor, but it's not clear he would be a great manager or leader.

Yeah but just think of what he would do for war crimes investigations!

He's managing a large team of prosecutors in a federal district that has one of the busiest dockets in the country and he apparently inspires such loyalty that they A) all work like he does, and he's a crazy workaholic and B) they never ever leak (see all the stories from the Plamegate era remarking how leak-free his office was) which is pretty unheard of.

pinson wonders how Blago is even breathing, let alone be governor of Illinois. Read the criminal information, his stupidity is astounding. He apparently actually thought he had a realistic chance of trading the naming of the Senate seat for a cabinet position, and, failing that, for a position as head of a 501(c)(4) foundation which would be funded by Warren Buffet and Bill Gates. He's delusionally stupid.

All of a sudden, I've never seen Fitzerald snap to the call of duty so fast.
Normally, I'd say it's a good thing, but right now, I think it's like Fitz's agitating just a bit too much.
Just like a guy erraticaly gesturing after passing poison gas.
FiTz-em-a$$ would make a good brand for toilet paper that fritters.

Now's not a good time to make Lincoln jokes or references to the Lincoln grave.
The 3 vanities are on deathwatch right now, and any bad reference will make the stork market tank again.

Fitzgerald has worked on this since the Resko trial. The FBI made deals with the defendants to give testimony against Blagojevich.
It seems sudden but it was worked carefully and accelerated during Oct. '08. Blagojevich knew they were after him but he kept on dealing, bribing and extorting to the last minute.
The indictment makes for interesting reading.
