Separate Lawyers For Norm And Laurie Coleman
So Norm Coleman has hired a lawyer in connection with the claims made in the lawsuit against his longtime supporter Nasser Kazeminy. And so has Coleman's wife, Laurie.
But notice that the Colemans hired separate lawyers. That suggests that, perhaps prompted by the news that the FBI is now involved, the Minnesota senator and his wife are taking these allegations very seriously indeed.
Laurie Coleman is central to the allegations involving her husband. The lawsuit claims that Kazeminy used a company he owns, Deep Marine Technologies, to pass money to Norm Coleman, by making payments to the insurance broker, Hays Insurance, that employs Laurie Coleman.
The hiring of separate lawyers could also mean that the Colemans' interests in the case diverge. But we'll have to wait to see how this plays out before drawing any firmer conclusions...

I wouldn't read too much into the separate lawyers event. I think it's SOP for attorneys to represent only one party when spouses are involved.

The Coleman's and the Doolittles might want to exchange notes.
If Mrs. Coleman didn't look so much like Ann Coulter, she might elicit more sympathy as a victim, rather than a co-perp.

Didn't you know? Ann Coulter *is* Fred Gwynne. His "death" came when he got tired of constantly taking that wig off and on.

Off-topic: did you know that Fred Gwynne was also a talented illustrator? http://tinyurl.com/63avmn

It's the gift of the Magi!
"I sold my suit to retain you a lawyer."
"I fired my lawyer to buy you a suit!"
"Mwah!"
"Mwah!"

There is always a conflict when two or more defendants are involved. There is always a possibility of finger-pointing, or one defendant falling on the sword for the other. No attorney can be put in that situation.

They have been living in separate states and marriages for years now. Separate lawywers is no big deal.

These "separate but equal" comments and intimations of prudence of "2 lawyers for 2 people" are getting me sick. When a married couple that is together needs legal advice, they get 1 lawyer to tell 1 story to for 1 fee and 1 set of interests to manage for 1 outcome. Two lawyers means 2 clients and 2 sets of interests by definition.

FYI, not only is the number of lawyers interesting, but the particular lawyers chosen are interesting. They are the very top tier Twin Cities criminal defense lawyers. I wonder if they are readying themselves for criminal charges.

Senator Coleman was the $75,000 in graft paid to your wife done so for national security purposes and for "family values" or to pay for those free suits you got at Neiman Marcus? "For national security AND the promotion of family values." Your honor, I request that this case be dismissed and all the votes counted for Al Franken be tossed out!
