Judge: White House Must Pass On US Attorney Documents to Obama Admin.
Good news for those still hoping we'll get to the bottom of the White House's role in the US Attorney firings.
The Associated Press reports:
A federal judge says the incoming administration of Barack Obama must be given copies of documents the Bush White House has been withholding from Congress on the firings of nine U.S. attorneys. The order by U.S. District Judge John Bates is a minor victory for the House Judiciary Committee.
...
The House committee was concerned that the documents would no longer be readily available once they were shipped to the National Archives when President George W. Bush leaves office on Jan. 20.
The White House has refused to provide the crucial documents, which were subpoenaed by Rep. John Conyers' Judiciary committee. In addition, Karl Rove, Harriet Miers, and Josh Bolten - all senior White House officials at the time of the firings, have so far defied subpoenas issued by the committee.

Minor victory indeed; from one black hole to another black hole. WTF will Conyers do if/when he gets any docs? At most we'll get another worthless report such as Levins on treatment of detainees. Conclusions galore and no recommendations or action items.

And why would Bushco listen to a judge, particularly on their way out the door? Does anyone believe that the post-partisan Obama DoJ will be enforcing such orders, or that the Congress will do anything about it, really? Isn't Obama is telegraphing that the country needs to move forward, and can't be bothered with partisan witch hunts (which is what we call enforcement of laws now)? I suppose we should wait for him to surprise us.
In the meantime, we should expect more sternly worded letters from Conyers. I suspect he'd like to do much more more, but doubt that there's anywhere near enough resolve to back him up.

Why these people need to be nailed for their crimes :
If they are not disgraced, they will be back - they will be promoted.
Republicans will be back in power in eight or twelve years - this is the way to bet. Then the loyal slime-balls will be rewarded.
Mukasey : Supreme Court. Why not ? He was Attorney General !
Harriet Miers : Governor of this state or that ...
Josh Bolten: Congressman from a nice Right-Wing district.
How it worked last time : Robert Gates escaped being punished for his role in Iran-Contra. Now he is SecDef.
See how it works ?
You want Rove back in the government ?

It's 11:00 A.M., January 20.
Obama (in Oval Office): Hey, what are those boxes there?
Bush: Oh, that's just some odds and ends. Nothing, really. You might just want to just some of that stuff, didn't get to it myself.
Dick and I were housecleaning...
Obama: Hey was that his man-size safe being wheeled out a few minutes ago?
Bush: Yeah, we wanted you to start with a clean slate. Move on, you know. Focus on the future.
Obama: That's just what I intend to do. Less divisive. Post-partisan.
Bush: Uh-huh. You just keep that up. I'm sure I'll, we'll, be back. You've got my cooperation on that.
