Senate Releases Witness List For Holder Hearings
The Senate Judiciary committee has released its witness list for the confirmation hearings of Attorney General nominee Eric Holder, to begin Thursday:
The list:
The Honorable John W. Warner, Former United States Senator from Virginia
The Honorable Eleanor Holmes Norton, Congresswoman from the District of ColumbiaPanel I:
Eric H. Holder, Jr.Panel II:
The Honorable Louis J. Freeh, Former Director, Federal Bureau of Investigation
Chuck Canterbury, National President, Fraternal Order of Police
John Payton, President and Director-Counsel, NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc.Witness to be designated by the Minority
Witness to be designated by the Minority
It'll be interesting to see who Arlen Specter and friends decide to call, since they've signaled a desire to scrutinize Holder's record -- in particular his role in the Marc Rich pardon -- very closely.

This will set the tone for how the minority will deal with Obama, throughout his duration. If they make this an unecessarily nasty fight, Obama's email list may get triggered to enlist a groundswell of pitchforks!

Louis Freeh is a "defense" witness? I wouldn't believe Freeh if he said the sun was coming up in the east tomorrow. One of Clinton's WORST picks.

Anyone who has followed politics knows that lots of politicians and political appointees have cycled through several administrations. Holder has apologized once for the MRich incident...the GOP will now demand more contrition as it can be saved on CSPAN forever and rolled out whenever it becomes a useful tool. Other than that, it will be just another dog and pony show. If the GOP are thinking past the TV appearance, they would let him pass and then deride him if he fails to prosecute Bush / Cheney...that would successfully banish him and burnish Obama simultaneously

I'm afraid that no one will challenge Holder regarding his lousy record on civil liberties. Let's not wait until it's too late. Where is the press on this?

Eric Holder never took a position that the Clinton administration and Janet Reno didn't want him to take. Including the Marc Rich pardon. In the Obama administration, he won't take a position that Obama doesn't want him to take. Let's put the blame where it belongs.

Yes, there's some truth to that. Maybe a lot. But that is no reason not to ask Holder the questions. We absolutely need a solid civil libertarian leading DOJ. Better safe than sorry.

Re: Louis Freeh.
Evidence that we're scraping bottom already.
Paging Janet Reno.
