Relive Jindal's Tall Tale!
Reader T.A. notes that seeing the video of someone lying is more powerful than just reading the text.
So true! So here's the part of Bobby Jindal's speech from Tuesday night where he makes stuff up about Katrina. Enjoy...

I haven't seen this discussed, but Jindal caps off his lie with a piece of exquisite nonsense. To paraphrase Jindal: This story about the sheriff deomonstrates that the strength of America is not found in government, it's found in the compassionate hearts and enterprising spirit of its citizens.
But the story is about the strength of a local sheriff. Who works for, and represents, the government. So does Jindall, who inserted himself into the story of brave government officials standing up to stupid and cowardly government officials. How much do you want to bet a lot of those boats worked for the government too? These people must be accustomed to half-thought retreads of conservative cant, applied recklessly, being accepted by their usual audiences without critical thought. There's just no other way for a grown man to say on TV that the strength of a government official demonstrates that strength isn't found in government. Wha?

Good point. Jindal seems to want to single out government as the culprit, which ignores agencies like the Coast Guard. CG was universally hailed for their rescue efforts during the Katrina mess. Plus, I'm sure for the GOP the last thing they want to hear is criticism of the federal government's Katrina response from the La governor since it all happened under he-who-should-no-longer-be-mentioned.

His target audience will respond to his "story" about a battle between the local sheriff, his volunteers and the DC bureaucrat. They've heard it and told it to one another continuously since the country started. Liberals are caught up in nonsense like veracity and reason and the here and now, and they miss the point of the story. They probably don't even own a decent boat.
Remember, "Americans can do anything!" And they do. Which explains his speech.

See, here's what I don't get about this story: I used to live in the Lafayette/Breaux Bridge area for years. We always had hurricanes/tropical storms and we always had folks out in boats helping out other folks. This is the first time I have heard anything about proof of insurance being needed if you had a boat and were helping people.
This just doesn't pass the smell test at all to me. I think the whole story is made up and it's unfortunate Sheriff Lee isn't around any longer to enlighten us on what the real story is.

The whole story is just idiotic. Even if it were true, which it's not, it's a ridiculously anecdotal stretch as morality tale. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to see through it.
That Jindal appears as though he could pull of the human mask and reveal his reptilian face beneath, well, it ain't helping.
We can only pray to sweet baby jesus the GOP runs Jindal in 2012.
Jindal/Palin 2012!!! The Moron Minority!

I felt like I was back in the Library with story-time. Sitting on the carpet, waiting for Bubba Jindal to read us a nappy-nap story. Sadly, most I've spoken with here in Deridder, La. didn't get it either. Bubba Jindal and Bubba Palin (wink wink) for 2012!

He says it's a story. He didn't say it was a true story. So, it's fictionalized, historical fiction, an object lesson. His problem is that he put himself into the story in a fictionalized way and then didn't cop to it right away.

Some folks in New Orleans would even like to send Bobby Jindal's heroic friend, Sheriff Harry Lee, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich:
