Pelosi: Rove Deal Is "Victory For The Constitution"
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Judiciary chair Pat Leahy just released separate statements on the agreement to secure Karl Rove's testimony.
Pelosi:
The agreement for Karl Rove and Harriet Miers to testify upholds a fundamental principle: no one is above the law and Congressional subpoenas must be complied with.As public officials, we take an oath of office to uphold the Constitution. It is the institutional duty of Congress -- as an independent branch -- to ensure against abuse of power through meaningful oversight over the Executive Branch. When there are credible allegations about the politicization of law enforcement, the need for Congressional oversight is at its greatest.
In upholding our oaths of office, the House of Representatives was determined to preserve checks and balances -- the separation of powers that protects the rule of law. It brought action in court to enforce the Judiciary Committee's subpoenas, and won a major ruling by U.S. District Judge John Bates dismissing the extreme position of absolute immunity from Congressional oversight advocated by the Bush Administration for former Administration officials. Under this agreement, the precedent established by Judge Bates' historic ruling rejecting this extreme Bush Administration doctrine will be preserved.
Today's agreement is a great victory for the Constitution, the rule of law, and the separation of powers. I appreciate the strong leadership of Chairman John Conyers and the assistance of the Obama Administration.
Congress now has the opportunity to uncover the truth and determine whether improper criteria were used by the Bush Administration to dismiss and retain U.S. Attorneys.
Leahy:
I hope today's agreement will help to finally uncover the truth about the firings of U.S. Attorneys and the Bush White House cover up designed to shield from public view the inappropriate and illegal actions of the last administration. It should not have taken until now to obtain testimony and documents from Bush administration officials connected to the investigation into the firings. Today's agreement leaves in place the court ruling that rejected the Bush administration's unprecedented and unfounded blanket claims of executive privilege and immunity. I rejected those claims as excessive and wrong in my ruling on President Bush's position over a year ago, and a bipartisan majority of the Senate Judiciary Committee ultimately found Karl Rove and former White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten in criminal contempt.
I commend Chairman Conyers for the agreement reached today. I hope Congress, and the American people, will now finally hear long overdue answers to serious questions about political interference by the Bush White House in our nation's top law enforcement agency.

This is as far from change as the Democrats could put us. Howard Dean downplays single payer health and nancy and patrick cowtowing to kkkarl and harriet. Wow!
So much for change. The democrats always bow to the republicans. And especially now that they have rush as their leader.
Where is Cindy Shehan? We all should have listened to her.

"...upholds a fundamental principle: no one is above the law and Congressional subpoenas must be complied with."
Hogwash! What this just did is PROOVE that the constitution is a document to be used and abused at will. Rove and Miers made an agreement, which means they AGREED to give statements about certain things they WANT to explain. It also made it perfectly clear that executive priviledge after leaving office is lawful... at least congress just agreed it so.
The mobsters in Washington are doing two things at once... praising themselves for doing a good job while at the same time throwing the people of this nation to the wolves by once again protecting those scoundrels who are or have been in power!
The action itself just prove those in Washington ARE above the law... as we slide further down that slope... IMHO

NO MORE TIME LEFT!
We don't need any half-measures for E-Verify enacted by the lawmakers. At the moment E-Verify is free and voluntary. Legal American Workers want the program as a MANDATORY law. In the future it can even exceed it's 99.6 success evaluation. It would have required parasite companies to verify the immigration status of their workers "after being hired." The pro-illegal alien radical groups, including the ACLU, US Chamber of Commerce funded by the business community, have tried to downplay its value.
As an amendment to President Obama's Stimulus deal, it was secretly killed by Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV). So where does his loyalty lie? He's shadowed by the usual suspects that includes Pelosi,Gutierrez, Feinstein, Crowley, and the hidden faces cringing in dark corners. They have all likely have been brought by the multi-national corporations. Vote them out next time they come up for election. Crucify them?
If you value your job, within any trade or profession it is not safe. Even the high professional jobs have been stolen by visa over-stayers.
They vote on its reinstatement on March 6 in the Washington. We need a federal mandate! Not 5 years, but perpetuity! Call WA (202) 224-3121

Hey,this self-congratulatory delusion by Pelosi isn't fooling anyone. All that's missing is the Mission Accomplished sign to complete the effrontery.
How does AGREEMENT gives the Dems bragging rights?
Now,if they had thrown Miers and Roves asses in Gitmo-WITHOUT an agreement,or even charging them with anything ,now MAYBE we could have seen a glimmer of hope....

In the waning days of the Bush Debacle, and prompted by a lack of sign ideas for current events, and perhaps some judicial ruling, I wrote one of my last protest signs, at least for the time being...
THE CONSTITUTION STRIKES BACK!!

WOW, those gushing self-congratulatory platitudes make me sick!
How many subpoenas did Rove, Miers & Bolton defy? Speaking of Bolton, why isn't he testifying?
Why are they testifying in private?
How can this be called a victory for the Constitution?
This is capitulation... and that is what the Dems are known for!

What a crock. The system of checks and balances is intact! The Constitution salvaged!
All it took was a changeover of Presidential Administrations years later and, voila, Team Pelosi won the day! She's such a politician it makes me sick.
This should have been forced down the Bush Administration at the time it was all happening, but the Dems in Congress are too WEAK. Now that they have literally all the power, they start to talk tough. I have no respect for them at all.

Well, this compromise is not really a compromise. It's a bunch of crap. It sounds like a kabuki dance to me and nothing will come out of this. This is the same deal, that was unacceptable two years ago, that the king offered. Dems will claim victory and republicans won't say squat and the game will be over. We will never find out what happened.
