Report: Addington, Like Gonzo, Said To Still Be Looking For Work
Buried in a New York Times story today about the fallout for several former Bush lawyers who crafted the administration's war on terror policies, is the following gratifying nugget:
David S. Addington, a top aide to Vice President Dick Cheney who was a forceful voice in internal legal debates, is also said to still be looking for work.
As far as we know, Addington has not yet described himself as a "casualty of the war on terror", as Alberto Gonzales did recently in explaining his own failure to find a job.

Have no fear, the Republican welfare system, in the form of the American Enterprise Institute, or some such, will hire him or offer him a consulting contract.

How viable are the likes of the American Enterprise Institute or the Cato Institute in today's America? Are they still powerful centers of conservative thought capable of driving the movement, or are the the remnants of a spent way of thinking? I guess they could provide exile for Addington and others like him, but what else?

I'm hoping that AEI and Cato - like a number of other foundations - had substantial sums invested with Bernie Madoff.

Army's still hiring. If he and the rest of the chickenhawk brigade had the courage of their convictions and were serious about finding work, they'd enlist.

Addington's got a deep history of chicken-hawk; he dropped out of West Point after a week.

What?
Last I checked, the planet still has more than a handful of proto-fascist regimes.
Venezuela?
PRC?

I expect him to be "adopted" by one of the usual suspects. Either one of the fascist fronts wrapped in stars and stripes, or one of the many one percenters that inherited tons of money and no sense.

my guess is the guy was such a brutal asshole who stomped on so many people while he had the power to get away with it....that the normal Republican Welfare system is loathe to take him on. Even if he were brilliant and sublime (no evidence of that, just brutally efficient while superpower Cheney had his back)....who wants to work with a creep like him?

When he gets indicted, his name, occupation and his current employers name is going to be splashed all over the headlines.
Nobody wants to be associated with him.

I am no fan of the death penalty but I would happily attend this fat bloated repugnant indignant self-important bastard's public hanging after a swift and fair trial resulting in conviction of a death penalty eligible offense, assuming one exists.

Their driving the country into a ditch has put a whole lot of other people out of work. Nice to think they are getting back some of their own.

Here's a job for him: breaking rocks all day on the chain gang. To fill in the ditch he and his mafiosi drove us into.

Thanks to Obama's election victory, there's not many job postings for 'scumbag lawyers to help rationalize torture'.

wow, seriously? Alberto said that? He might try that one out on the widow of an Iraq veteran or a 9/11 widow.
Really, I wish he would try that one out on them. I'd love to wake up one morning to read the headline, "Gonzales punched in mouth repeatedly; to be fitted for dentures tomorrow."

David is simply (to quote Michael Steele) not thinking outside the box. He's perfectly qualified to be a consigliere to such worthy interest groups as La Cosa Nostra, the South American narcotraficantes, the Russian gangsters in New York and London, diamond smugglers in Africa... he should watch Tom Hagan in The Godfather and it'll all fall into place.

I'd hire Addington in a second...as a grave digger. But I would not pay him as there would be no need.

After two electoral defeats in a row, I think the Wingnut Welfare system is already full. How many incompetent former legislators, soon to be disbarred lawyers, journalists without investigative skills, and scientific experts with theology degrees can be absorbed?
Most of the people who finance Wingnut Welfare ain't doing so hot, so they system can't expand to handle the increased need. Wal-Mart is posting sales increases, but folks are drinking less Coors. Mellon-Scaife's newspapers are losing readers faster than the national average, and NewsMax isn't ever going to make a profit. And Wall Street....

He and all the other sycophants from the Bush administration should count their blessings they're not in prison or hanging from the short end of a rope.
Lucky for them our nation has a two-tiered system of justice one for malfeasant sycophants and another for peons.
Guess which you are?

Hell, there are enough extremely wealthy rightwing nuts who will back him in some kind of nutso think tank. If the Kagan's can avoid work and get paid, no doubt Addington, Gonzo and the rest will be making double , or many times what they did with the Bush administration. They will spew bullshit and get paid for it.
