Rove Lawyer: Testimony Won't Happen For "Several Weeks"

So when exactly will Karl Rove have his big sit-down with the House Judiciary committee to reveal what he knows about the White House's involvement in the US Attorney firings?

According to Rove's lawyer, Robert Luskin, not for "several weeks." That's how long it will likely take, Luskin told TPMmuckraker, for both Rove and the committee to review the relevant documents and schedule the testimony. Luskin declined to give a more specific time frame.

The agreement securing Rove's testimony, announced Wednesday between Congress and the Bush administration, acknowledged this need for deliberation, declaring: "The interviews will be conducted as soon as possible consistent with needed preparation time and the availability of the witnesses and their counsel."

But Luskin did defend Rove's comments to FoxNews.com, published yesterday, in which he warned of a "show trial" and said that Democrats "would love to have me barbecued."

Arguing that Rove had legitimate concerns about the fairness of the process, Luskin referred to a comment made about Rove by Judicary chair John Conyers -- "someone's got to kick his ass." Luskin also said that Speaker Nancy Pelosi had told Rolling Stone that Rove might have to go to jail. (In fact, Pelosi said she foresaw Rove being prosecuted.)

"If you were the subject of that, you'd worry about the process too," said Luskin.

Luskin also confirmed to TPMMuckraker that he had played no role in the agreement, and was not kept closely informed about the progress of negotiations.

Seemingly and/or possibly Sad, Appalling, Corrupt and Disgusting.

Seemingly or possibly the 'Same Pack of Lies' with the seemingly same disingenuous, deception and/or dishonesty within the Executive, Legislative and Judicial Branches (seemingly to include the so-called US Senate Truth Commission, etcetra) with the pre-exclusion!! of US Constitutional Bill of Rights mandated Testimony and to be held in (permanent!!??) undefined Secrecy and with apparently a pre-determined Press Release from the (initial??!!) Subpoenaed Individuals.

Also, it is presumably and seemingly expected from a reasonable person that a Democracy and Law is not consistent with the enactment of the Death Penalty, Torture (both Internationally and Domestically!!), Legal//Illegal Rendition (and/or unheard and disappearances), Legal//Illegal Secrecy (Wiretaps etcetra), Seemingly Fraudulent Signing Statements, Patriot Act, Illegal War(s), the illegal and/or un-constitutional etcetra abolishing of Habeas Corpus and numerous other seemingly allegations of high crimes and misdemeanors (and/or with Fraud, Waste and Abuse).

It seemingly appears clear and unmistakable and that a reasonable person would concur that there must be a full and complete endeavor and effort at these and this level of concern to have a unfettered application towards the Truth, Oversight and Accountability, Transparency and seemingly in the hopes for Truth, Redemption, Salvation (and seemingly therefore with proper and forthright efforts and endeavors towards forgiveness and penance concerns).

Finally and in closing, tpmreaders may recall a recent blog comment reply that I would presume found the recent President Obama 'State of the Union' address with all our US Executive, Legislative and Judicial Leaders and Members Present seemingly to some extent disturbing and/or offensive to our great Country and Democracy.

Please note that as Senator Kennedy and President Obama are apparently meeting today in a highly publicized event in reference to Health Care, Education etcetra, I would expect that PROPER AND FORTHRIGHT!! consideration be given to Immigration as the Sunset of 245i on 12/15/1999 has now left approximately 30 million undocumented and/or (I presume legal term: alien) workers in our great country [example: (and that have also seemingly been directly and/or indirectly employed etcetra, to include by our US Government)(Katrina)].

Hopefully, TPM will allow me to offer corrections, modifications, explanations and/or removal of this blog comment reply as necessary and as it is not my intent to offend anyone.

So are you trying to say that the Felon has weasled (surely temporarily) his way out his deserved comeuppance again?

user-pic

Sounds more and more like the Democratic Congress is again and again pushing this all down the road hoping that people will forget, that this will all go away, and that they will not have to officially forgive (or prosecute) Rove for ignoring a duly authorized subpoena.

Rove has the options of:
1. National Security.
2. Executive Priviledge.
3. The Fifth Ammendment.
4. Talking without responding to the questions asked.

Anyone who expects Rove to provide any relevant information is totally insane. He has been dodging bullets far to long now to provide the Democrats with any more ammunition than they already have.
.

Don't forget "I don't recall".

"Really, I knew all this stuff two weeks ago but I seem to have just forgotten it. I'm sorry, I wish you guys asked me to come in sooner so I could be more helpful."

Don Siegelman was asked on Rachel Maddow's show last night whether some form of justice could be had by Rove and Meier submitting a deposition instead of live testimony. His opinion?

The way to do this correctly would be to first interview other ex-insiders about their recollections about things like his prosecution and the firing of David Iglesias and other DoJ lawyers before accepting the depositions. That way, since Rove and Meier are submitting their depos "under penalty of perjury," any little variations in remembering could well open the door to deeper legal action (special prosecutor, grand jury, etc.).

Siegelman's opinion was he did not want a rush job on this process, for congress to take it's time and make certain to cover as many bases as possible before those depos come through the door.

The one quote from him I quite well remember is that Rove "is like a two-headed rattlesnake that has to be backed into a corner and held down with a heavy stick" -- with the implication that this was something to be done deliberately and carefully.

I would suggest that it may and/or should and/or would be of interest to TPM Muckreaders that on the Wikipedia.org Website that if you type in their search box the name(s) of Lewis 'Scooter' Libby, Richard Armitage (Politian), Karl Rove that you will find a seemingly and/or presumably a wealth of information seemingly relevant to this Article.

Aside from the obvious and that has been mentioned at length on the TPM Muckraker website and within the years of many formidable and/or superb and excellent and/or frustrated and exasperated blog comment replies.

A few observations that I have not heard mentioned are;

1) There has to my knowledge been no mention of any and/or the legal implications and/or ethics of the seemingly publicized fact that US Special Prosecutor Fitzgerald held and ordered confidential from the Defense and Prosecution and Court(s) and the 'We the People' Public the (legal) Fact that Richard Armitage was the leak and that Richard Armitage, Former VP Cheney Chief of Staff as the leak in the CIA Valerie Plame Investigation and seemingly ongoing investigation and seemingly within the main point in the Conviction of Lewis 'Scotter' Libby.

2) As US Attorney Leura Canary has recused herself from the Governor Don Sieglman Trial, how is it possible that a 'mis trial' was not applied for and/or declared?

If these mentions are of assistance to Tpm Muckraker and their Readers and blog comment repliers, then that appears that it is seemingly worthwhile that I have mentioned these observations.

Also and importantly as it is not my intent to offend anyone, hopefully TPM Muckraker will allow me to request to remove this reply and/or try to offer suggestions, corrections and/or modifications to this additional reply to this TPM Muckraker Article.

I will believe it when I see it happen. This sounds wishy-washy.Seems like the Dems have no real desire to put this corrupt(Rove) piece of ..it in jail. Why the judiciary committee has not deposed Leura Canary & the other players during this time,in my opinion means the Dems ain't serious about the issue. But since Rove's attorney has concerns about the impartiality of the Judiciary committee,Why don't Conyers get Obama to appoint a special prosecutor for the matter.

"Luskin also confirmed to TPMMuckraker that he had played no role in the agreement, and was not kept closely informed about the progress of negotiations."

This is a deeply laughable assertion.

user-pic

"show trial"?

My understanding is that Rove's testimony is to be taken in private, behind closed doors. How then could this be construed as a "show trial"?

user-pic

No useful information will be provided, no action will be taken, no punishment will be handed down, no changes will be made.

The whole trial will just be a show.

user-pic

Well me, I'm not confident he will EVER testify

user-pic

A "Show & Tell" set-up to merely pacify the public ... Truths will never be heard from Rove.

user-pic

we know the truth. Everyone knows the truth.

What we may never hear from Rove is an admission of guilt.

There are some statements already made by others, I'm hoping, that will conflict with the ones he is about to make.
