Sweeney To Enter Rehab, Says Lawyer
Eagle-eyed reader B.K. passes along this tidbit which we missed from late last week.
As we told you, former New York GOP congressman -- and Jack Abramoff buddy -- John Sweeney last week was charged with a felony DUI after he told officers who stopped his car that he was in "big trouble" and refused to take a roadside sobriety test. But later in the week, a local New York news channel reported that Sweeney's court appearance, scheduled for last Friday, had been postponed.
Why? Reports Capital News 9:
[T]he court date was postponed at the request of [Sweeney's] lawyer who said Sweeney plans to enter rehab.
Sweeney, who lost his House seat in 2006, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor drunken-driving offense in November 2007. So this could be a good move.

It's SOP for everybody, not just political figures.
There is usually a window of opportunity for police to file charges in cases like this. Holding the hearing before that window expires allows the police to file new charges or to correct any deficiency in the charges they have already filed.
A postponement until after that window of opportunity expires limits the charges faced to those already filed.

In "AA" (which is not short for "AAA"), we see these flakes (along with those facing DIVORSE,
exposed HOMOSEXUALITY/LESBIANISM, whatever) all the time.
They last long enough to "cover ther asses".
Toooooooooooooo bad . . . . attempting to gain sympathy at the expense of others.

Remember during the Watergate scandal days when all of those administration officials publicly announced their alcoholism. Herb Caen pointed out that it getting so bad that the Republicans were giving alcoholism a bad name.
