Karen Hughes: Don't Blame Me For Torture
You've got to hand it to Karen Hughes. She fights for what she believes in.
The former top Bush adviser talked torture in a recent interview with the Houston Chronicle:
She acknowledged the current uproar over interrogation tactics and allegations of prisoner torture during the Bush years."I was very vocal in the internal debate," she said. "I worried about how that would make us look in the eyes of the world. But I had left the White House when a lot of that was taking place."
Then she paused, worried for the first time in 90 minutes that she'd made a gaffe.
Whatever Sen. John McCain says about interrogation techniques, she added quickly, she has similar views.
Hughes left the White House in July 2002 -- apparently after the White House approved the CIA's requests to torture Abu Zubaydah.
A true profile in courage.

Karen was a tool from day one. She certainly won over the Middle East with her position in the State Dept. Good Bye and hopefully good riddance!

Profiles in courage indeed. Perhaps Darth Cheney could pen "Profiles in Fear" as he's eminently qualified to do. The problem is the quantity of past (from 2001) and present Congressional and Administration leaders to choose from; a veritable cast of 1,000s.

I do not think most Americans are that concerned about waterboarding. Yes it seems very unnecessary and we're happy that Karen Hughes has similar views to John McCain, but the strategy of the Republicans right now is to take the attention off health care reform.

Yeah, left the White House, then worked at the State Dep't., worked for Bush's 2004 election attempt, etc.
Nothing has ever left her mouth but propaganda & lies.

Cheap Shot: Will she take the blame for that hair-cut?

A lot of the Bush crew may have been opposed to waterboarding. Unfortunately, the person in charge of the Presidency, Cheney, did not care who was against it. He was for it and by golly, no matter if his assistant, President Bush was against it it would still be done to detainees. Cheney's daughter can try to rehab her father but alas, it is far too little, far too late for any rehab for Cheney. He was the actual President in reality if not in name and that is for sure what got our country into this horrible mess!

If one considers that Cheney's overriding goal was to profit personally from perpetual war, everything falls into place.
Leaving Afghanistan before the job was finished, attacking Iraq, the treatment of prisoners, the bombing of civilian targets in both Afghanistan and Iraq, the buildup for a war with Iran, etc., etc., etc.
Everything makes sense if you consider Cheney's overriding goal is to create a perpetual war - Christians against Moslems.
