Pelosi Expresses "Respect" For "Men And Women Of The Intelligence Community"
Here's a statement just put out by Nancy Pelosi, which seems designed to turn down the heat on her claim that the CIA lied to her about torture, but doesn't back off the claim:
Pelosi Statement on Panetta Message to CIA EmployeesWe all share great respect for the dedicated men and women of the intelligence community who are deeply committed to the safety and security of the American people. My criticism of the manner in which the Bush Administration did not appropriately inform Congress is separate from my respect for those in the intelligence community who work to keep our country safe. What is important now is to be united in our commitment to ensuring the security of our country; that, and how Congress exercises its oversight responsibilities, will continue to be my focus as we move forward.

LOL. She's so pathetic.

The trap is set and Pelosi has shown a great deal of political courage setting it.
Simply, there can be no investigation of torture and anyone's role in it apart from investigating the phony intel of 2002 in the run up to the war
The Speaker's move puts me in mind of Bismarck when he reworded the Kaiser's Ems telegram to Napoleon III. Pelosi has waved a red flag in front of the Republican's bullsh*t

I don't know what kind of trap you see. All I see is Pelosi being caught lying and abrogating her duty. And trying to untangle herself, her new statements contradict her old statements.
And this "respect" after the claimed a day before that CIA is misleading her all the time is just the latest lame attempt at damage control.
Those who briefed Pelosi, were not "men and women of the intelligence community". They were aliens from Kucinich's UFO.

Panetta's statement was not an assertion that Pelosi was lying (how could he know? where was he in 2002? As many have noted, he came to the CIA this year as a total outsider to the intelligence community). It was more a statement of principles. vague and unobjectionable, and perhaps wishful too.
Pelosi is not contradicting herself either (one would have to have the keen optics of David Brooks to see that). There are members of the intelligence community who are doing their best in near-impossible circumstances, and the job itself, by its very nature, is often thankless.
But as Bob Baer said the other day, the CIA often treats Congress "like mushrooms: Keep them in the dark and feed them manure."
This should not be such a shock to anyone.

Mind like a steel trap here!
What is it about the GOP wanting to KILL investigations into torture and the link to the Iraq War don't you understand?
I couldn't be any clearer. So cut to Fox News

Pelosi caught lying? Really?

If conservatives were being honest about their criticisms, they’d be taking up Pelosi’s desire for a full investigation, an inquiry that would not only examine what members of Congress knew but also the prominent role Cheney played in authorizing illegal acts.
See my post below ..if the timeline fits wear it - preferably under oath and penalty of perjury

You must be completely delusional to think that Pelosi, in her otherworldly strategic brilliance, has set up a trap.
If she did, she walked into it herself.

The Briefings on the Torture Program designed to produce phony evidence for a phony war in Iraq
In SEPTEMBER 2002
Program terminated in 2004 when Cneney couldn't even manufacture evidence to back up his Iraq lies
Nancy was either brilliant or brilliantly lucky
Result is the same

Days later in September 2002 the yellowcaked CIA, the "slam dunk" CIA prepared a phony NIE and briefed selected congresspersons including Pelosi, Feinstein, and their GOP counterparts
Within days of that September 2002 CIA briefing, DiFi announced that based on intelligence the Bush admnistation provided her, in THOSE SEPTEMBER BRIEFINGS, she now believed that Iraq presented a grave threat to the security of the US

Get it?!? While the blood is dripping from Republican hands they are pointing to Pelosi and saying it's her fault for not stopping us. What horrible immoral thugs the Republicans and their ass kissers have turned out to be. Absolutely disgusting.
And for the asshat who lives to get the first comment in on this website ....... I wish there was a draft in this country just so pathetic useless cheerleaders like you could go off and die for the bullshit you so love.

How to shut everybody up:
From the Office of the President
Statement from President Barack Obama*
In light of former Vice-President Cheney's recent appearances and statements and the confusion subsequently surrounding them - not to mention the intense political bickering that has ensued - I have informed the Justice Department that I hereby direct them, effective immediately, to appoint an independent Special Prosecutor, who shall retain full investigative powers, and begin a full and thorough investigation into the practices and policies of the former administration in regards to their handling of detainees held in our custody and in other countries abroad and other ancillary matters. I have told Director Holder personally to appoint someone of great integrity and who is free from political bias.
I simply cannot allow any alledged or suggested misdeeds of this nature of the former administration to stain my administration and slow us down or inhibit us from accomplishing the good work that I intend to accomplish. This was not an easy decision for me but no one can be above the law. There can be no excuses. The soul of our great country depends on our belief in and adherence to the law.
Thank you and God Bless America.

statement from Attorney General Holder*:
Due to recent revelations involving current and former members of Congress, the White House, and the Department of Justice, implicating members of both parties, I have no choice put to appoint an outside counsel to investigate these serious allegations.
statement from President Obama**:
While I have emphasized the need to look forward at this critical time for our country, I respect Attorney General Holder's decision and emphasize that it was his decision alone. For too long, we have seen the Department of Justice politicized and used to carry out the Agenda of the White House. Turning the investigation over to the Special Counsel's will enable the Department of Justice continue their essential work protecting the American Bla-de-la.

I am also frustrated and exasperated.
Please recall and should also be in the Democracynow.org Archives that the FBI directly informed with creditable intelligence to then the President Bush Administration, et all, Executive Branch and directly US AG John Ashcroft of the;
1) The impending, 'Gang of Thugs' horrific 9/11/2001 attack,
2) It is also well publisized that the CIA and/or FBI and Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson, clearly notified with creditable intelligence to the US Executive Branch of the false allegations of WMD's and to prevent the false intelligence that eventually lead to the Illegal Iraq War and the now insuing other (seemingly illegal ?) Wars.
In just these two instances the US Executive Branch, et all!! and US AG John Ashcroft refused any further telephone calls and all other relevant communication.
Thank you for your concern.
Thank you for your time and consideration.

There are many that could articulate this better than I, although please, also recall the well published and media reported retaliations upon these Federal Employees of Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson and his wife, CIA Valerie Plame and with the successfull prosecution and conviction of CIA Lewis 'Scooter' Libby and illegal Pardon of Libby and the well known and media reported allegations and/or fact that these highly illegal and Impeachable offenses and retaliations came directly from then US Vice-President Cheney and alleged many others in the Executive Branch. (An additional mention that it has recently been reported that Special Prosecutor Fitzgerald had this information during the Libby Trial and did not disclose that he had this Information).

Cranial,
WHho doesn't respect the once third in line at the CIA. Kyl "Dusty" Foggo, now serving 37 months in the slammer on a bribery/corruption charge.
And of course there's ex CIA head George "Slam Dunk" Tenet.
Porter Goss, who abruptly resigned as head of the CIA after a story surrounding the Cunningham scandal arose which told of regular poker games at The Watergate which had hookers involved and Goss as someone named as a player.
And of course there's the James Mattoon Scott clone, Air Force General and ex CIA head Michael Hayden, who, before arriving at the CIA was director of the National Security Agency. In that position, he misled Congress about Bush’s warrantless wiretapping program. He told a committee investigating the 9/11 attacks that any surveillance of persons in the United States was done consistent with FISA. Of course, at the time, Hayden was operating an illegal spying program.
And Hayden condoned the destruction of a number of CIA interrogation tapes.
Naw, why would I ever believe the CIA would lie to Congress?

Most commentators here and in the media seem to have short memories. It was refreshing then to hear Richard Wolfe on Olberman provide a trenchant review and perspective.
The Bushies tried to get Congressional leaders pregnant in Sept 2002. Was part of their War Rollout. When the Dems took charge in 2007, the Republicans began a steady if not terribly subtle drumbeat of threats against any Congressional war investigations - "but the Democratic leadership knew". With the 2008 elections, the threats became more specific (GOP questioning of Holder and Panetta). When Obama released the torture memos and the Levin report was published out of armed Services (with Senate Intel readying their own), Pelosi became their target.
This isn't about torture. This is about torture being used to gin up a phony case for a phony war
That's what the GOP has been trying to stop for two years now, the trap they set back in 2002

The leaders of America now support torture... PERIOD!!
It is and will be there for use by any future (or present, for that matter) administration... who will not have NEAR the scrutiny shown to them as this time. The reason is simple... folks get use to anything after awhile and torture has been taken off the table as a punishable act for folks in power... at least in this nation.
The next generation... and the next... of young people will just take it in stride until this nation has completed its fall from glory and has became the entity our ancestors fought to prevent.
The commoners and elite have been divided and the laws have been changed to no longer deal out equal justice. Those in power have decided their power is beyond accountability and we peons will just have to get used to it.
Perhaps one saving action which may protect the rest of the world from our future wrath is that our leaders may have done enough damage these past couple of generations that this nation may not be able to continue with its untold power and wealth, and the rest of the world may get to see a decaying nation go down without too much storm and upheaval emanating outward.
Probably won't happen, though, since history has show nations in our dilemma have a habit of striking outward as they decline, and with our 10,000+ nuclear weapons in hand, our striking out may permanently destroy the hope of all but the staunch right wing christians who look forward to the end days...
Unless, of course, some folks more vigilant than I have noticed our current President and Congress coming up with laws and regulations PREVENTING and PUNISHING future administrations from repeating what has been occurring these past years...

Aside from the seemingly brilliant mentioned presumed Observation and/or Preception, Very sad and seemingly unfortunate (and therefore for possibly, presumably and/or seemingly for our US Constitution, Bill of Rights 'We the People' 'In God We Trust' Democracy). Also as it may suggest and/or mandate within our US Constitution, Bill of Rights for a more proper and forthright 'We the People' 'Transparency' and with a more proper and forthright 'Oversight and Accountability' and that has seemingly been missing in many siginificant areas of concern for the recent decade(s).
Impeachment should be on the Table. Now!!
US Congressional Chairman, John Conyers, US Congressional Judicary Committee, 'Presidential Powers and Its Limitations' 'Impeachment Hearings' is well overdue for a STATUS REPORT and IMPEACHMENTS!!

Millions of commoners have been imprisoned in this nation for the past couple of centuries.
The crimes range from indecency and petty theft all the way up to torture and murder.
Of course, these were just unimportant commoners... easily forgotten and/or replaced.
We now are seeing just how unimportant and petty commoners are actually viewed by the REALLY IMPORTANT people who have decided that they will be our new rulers.
Be wary folks to support ANYBODY who attempts to split our justice system into separate factions... one for the rulers and one for the peons.
If you do not believe these scoundrels are ruling... their actions are PROVING it!
Rulers can be as friendly and beniggn as they wish to be. They can be honest whenever it pleases them. What distinguishes them as rulers is that... when they choose to be MONSTERS they can be so without little things like laws and penalties restraining them.
If anyone disagrees, please state so because I for one am beginning to envision just how far and fast this behavior can change the nature of this nation... and would like to be proven wrong...

Of course the Republicans are leaking Pelosi's knowledge of the CIA torture briefings in order to force the Democrats to BACK OFF from instigating a Truth Commission - it would expose key DLC leaders as complicit.
The question is, do we back off even if Pelosi and other prominent Dems are implicated?
Of course not. We are ready to hold Pelosi accountable should it be proven that she is complicit.
Frankly, how could she not have known? There's been a half decade of abuses going on and as a ranking member of Congress, the CIA are obliged to brief her. No matter how Leon Pannetta's words are tortuously spun by die-hard Pelosi supporters, there is NO ambiguity in the statement that Pelosi was "truthfully briefed" by the CIA about waterboarding Zubaydah. What is particularly galling is her apparent, overt stance regarding human rights abuses in China and Tibet while silently acquiescing to human rights abuses at home.
In the end, I am committed to the more important goal of coming clean about this most nefarious period in US history. This should trump all other partisan considerations. It should also send a signal to current and future politicians that not only are the abusers and those who authorized them accountable and will be put on trial, but those who kept silent or turned a blind eye in order that they may continue are also held accountable in their complicity.
