RNC: Steele Spent $18,500 To Redecorate Office

OK, it's small potatoes compared to John Thain's legendary $1.2 million redecoration of his Merill Lynch office suite. But still: in these cash-strapped times, we're wondering how RNC members feel about Michael Steele's decision to spend $18,500 on his own quarters.

Check out this nugget, from a Politico story about rancor between Steele and the committee members:

The committee's financial reports show that last month it paid nearly $22,000 to a Washington, D.C. interior decorator, though RNC spokesman Todd Irons said only $18,500 of that was for "improvements to the chairman's office."

Actually, though, we might have seen this coming. In that disastrous GQ interview from March, Steele mentioned that he was "re-doing" the heavy dark-wood Republican furniture he inherited. "This is gonna sound weird, but it's way too male for me," he said.

We called the interior decorator listed in the financial reports, to find out whether he had been asked to make Steele's office more feminine. But he declined to talk about his work for the RNC.

An RNC spokesperson told Politico that the committee still has not hired a press secretary, a research director, or several other positions.

Not that they have a monopoly on it, but isn't bilking people a plank in the GOP platform? He's just being a good Republican!

While Steel's office makeover may not be as high-end as Thain's, the move is still consistent with his party's core values: fiscal responsibility and limit spending.
[For further examples, see Sarah Palin's wardrobe...!]
Isn't it nice to see Steele "embrace his feminine side" and add some girly touches to his office???
I hope all GOP donors will get invited to take a look, once it is finished...

In contrast, even though Republicans during the run-up to the elections, said Obama was "already measuring the drapes in the Oval Office"--it turns out Obama has neither replaced the drapes nor the RUG in the Oval Office!! Even though it is normal for each new Pres. to re-do the carpet. But Mr. Steele needs to re-do his office, hhhmmmmm.

Obama may be waiting for the economy to improve before adding those new drapes. Besides, with his plate stacked to the ceiling, maybe there are better things to do.

Steele not hiring a press sec, however, makes this fun. Can you imagine him having someone who knows how to talk to the press? It's far more fun having him address them.

Steele is a clown that has all the GOPers that voted for him wondering WHAT WERE WE THINKING, oh yeah, that WE ARE THE PARTY OF IDEAS. Michael Steele, tea parties, and y0h mamma will bring about a resurgence to the promise land!

No doubt the decore will be conteporary with his backwards baseball cap. That's just the way they roll in the GOP.

I hate to defend Steele but the repubs need to focus on the entire party platform, not him. He actually seems to be the most human of them all and that's not saying much for any of them. It's obvious the party of old white men feels like it's in strange territory.
