Congress To Probe Secret CIA Program
Rep. Silvestre Reyes, who chairs the House Intelligence committee, has announced an investigation into the secret CIA program that Leon Panetta recently ended, and which Dick Cheney reportedly ordered kept secret from Congress.
From Reyes's statement:
After careful consideration and consultation with the Ranking Minority Member and other members of the Committee, I am announcing an official Committee investigation into possible violations of federal law, including the National Security Act of 1974.This investigation will focus on the core issues of how the congressional intelligence committees and Congress are kept fully and currently informed. To this end, the investigation will examine several issues, including the program discussed during Director Panetta's June 24th notification and whether there was any official decision or direction to withold (sic) information from the Committee.

"the core issues of how the congressional intelligence committees and Congress are kept fully and currently informed"
- so this has nothing to do with the actual program and everything to do with Nancy Pelosi.

I think it's more about the rule of law.
And whether it's time for another Church Committee.

Gutting Church's committee work (like the FISA statute that Obama voted to neuter) has produced a predictable result- the need for another Church Committee.
Of course, this time it will be harder to accomplish the same result. It always is, the second time around. The criminals have longer memories than those who would prosecute them.

Sounds like a Republican apologist. However, I am a Republican and I require even the Vice President to conduct himself within the framework of the laws passed by the legislature. His Lone Ranger approach of bypassing the House Intel committee shows he did not have any appreciation for the fact that our Government is organized with checks and balances, ie oversight by the legislature and the veto power by the executive branch. Cheney's attitude is definitely un-American and exposes him to untold questions about his behavior that the House investigation should answer. As a Republican, I would not be satisfied with less than a full-blown House Intel committee investigation of EVERY detail of Cheney's supposed malfeasance. In fact, in the scheme of our Nation's security and moral standing, the proposed oversight is absolutely necessary.

Actually you are whistling in the dark about what the proposed investigation is about. As a Republican, I insist a thorough investigation is done and let the chips fall where the facts lead. The only people who are anxious to stop an investigation are the Cheney apologists and those who have no appreciation for lawful behavior. If Republicans succumb to the Nixon type of behavior, America has a right to vote against Republicans for years and years. So let the truth roll and let the chips fall where they may. Republicans have had a free ride for years now and the monster has come home to roost now and will ruin our party if we do not clean house.

No that is not it at all. The investigation will delve into whether the Bush Administration ie Cheney maliciously and purposely withheld intel information from the Congressional committee charged with oversight of intelligence. If indeed Cheney refused to allow congress to be briefed, he may be in for a postmortem evaluation of his conduct and eventually being held accountable for breaking the law. Who cares if he is jailed or fined. It is enough if the guy was held accountable for his misdeeds. It would also be a lesson to future renegade Vice Presidents. As a Republican I expect our party to observe the law and conform to it meticulously.

Right now, each Dem with balls should demand an apology from every Repub pol who sang the "Pelosi should resign" chorus. If the Repub does not have the courage, and courtesy to admit they were wrong, and that they were played like an old fiddle, they should be drummed out of office by Dems daily reminding voters how wrong the Repubs were. And how childish they are not to admit it now and apologize. This talking point Lalo gets from Fox is incoherent; "When Peolis is proven right, that proves (to Fox braindeads) that it must be a setup by xyz to vindicate Pelosi". How paranoid, and bizarre.

It's the National Security Act of 1947 that Reyes appears to mean, Sec. 501: http://www.intelligence.gov/0-natsecact_1947.shtml

Lalo35adm....Never minding the fact that Panetta came forward among others and told you that the CIA didn't inform Congress...then Boehner says that the CIA doesn't lie...then turns around says they do....(trying to prove his twisted point of view!)
It has little to do with Pelosi...who by the way was not Speaker of the House but only the House minority whip in 2001 (when all these "secrets" started)..and everything to do with your own personality disorder....
Are you one of those over $350,000.00 or more a year who got the Bush tax cuts and are now bashing Obama and the Democrats because you don't want to give any of it back to help with Health Care reform....or just stupid...?

It's not just Fox News or Congressional Republicans who owe Nancy Pelosi multiple apologies. Morning Joe (MSNBC) "titans" Mika and Joe, along with Pat Buchanan, seemed to have as much, if not more, endless diatribes against Ms. Pelosi as Fox for her supposed lies about the CIA. I can not bear to listen to those people again. MSNBC, you need to retune and refine that show!! Or, you can let them out of their contracts and let them preach to their "base" directly from the studios of Fox News.

Impeachment for crimes should NEVER be off the table!!!
Pelosi, in my view, turned away from our democratic principles and the common peoplee of this country as soon as she decided to not pursue impeachment after getting her position of ppower.
The fact that she is now upset because SHE wasn't privey to information seem to be just a personal item. Although the right thing to do, it is for the wrong reason.
Hopefully next election cycle, enough voters will be outraged at the total lack of concern for our constitution and rules of law these clowns have adopted while at the same time showing just how self centered they are to think and act only for vindetta purpose because THEY were injured.
What in the world has happened to us that we can no longer elect true patriots on EITHER side of the aisle... just self serving opportunists?

I'm just finishing Access Denied For Reasons of National Security by Cathy O'Brien and Mark Phillips.
This is the book that follows up TRANCE Formation of America which clearly informs us about MK ULTRA, the mind control program used to create those who have done the bidding of Dick Cheney and others.
I'm currently at the Col. L. Fletcher Prouty Reference site. Here's his bio from the site:
Col. Prouty spent 9 of his 23 year military career in the Pentagon (1955-1964): 2 years with the Secretary of Defense, 2 years with the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and 5 years with Headquarters, U.S. Air Force. In 1955 he was appointed the first "Focal Point" officer between the CIA and the Air Force for Clandestine Operations per National Security Council Directive 5412. He was Briefing Officer for the Secretary of Defense (1960-1961), and for the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
At times he would be called to meet with Allen Dulles and John Foster Dulles at their home on highly classified business. He was assigned to attend MKULTRA meetings. In this capacity Col. Prouty would be at the nerve center of the Military-Industrial Complex at a time unequalled in American History. He has written on these subjects, about the JFK assassination, the Cold War period, and Vietnamese warfare, and the existence of a "Secret Team". He backs up his his work with seldom seen or mentioned official documents - some never before released.

1) I'm glad the CIA has been working on ways to hunt al qaeda terrorists.
2) This misguided anger against Cheney and the CIA is clearly just to cover Pelosi.
3) Another interesting article on the topic here: https://www.mindreign.com/en/mindshare/World-Politics-and-Current-Events/Let-the-CIA-fight-terrorists/sl34045952bp344cpp5pn1.html

The secret CIA program involves biomedical technology deployed by CIA/OMS personnel both domestically and at Abu Ghraib. The program is uglier than anyone could imagine, even by CIA standards. Details are contained in a disclosure to the House Intelligence Subcommittee investigating the program. Full report at Larson Media .
