Sweeney Charged With Drunk Driving Felony

Troubled former GOP congressman John Sweeney was indicted this morning on a felony drunk driving charge, reports the Albany Times-Union.

The charges concern an April 5 incident. But in 2007, Sweeney pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor drunk driving charge offense.

In 2006, the boozy lawmaker and Jack Abramoff crony was photographed at a sweaty local frat party. That fall, he lost his House seat amid charges that his wife had the previous year called 9-1-1 to report that Sweeney was “knocking her around the house.”

Sweeney’s lawyer has said he’ll enter rehab. He’ll be arraigned Monday.
