On the U.S. attorney firings, Congress has also released thousands of pages of White House and RNC emails and other documents pertaining to the firings.
Here are the White House documents. Here are the RNC documents.

Sara. Karl asked me to forward 10 you a IIsl of local/ons where we may consi der replacIng the
USAs. Theyare: Alabama (Southern), Arkansss (Eastern). California (Southern), Florida
(Northern), Kenlucky (Wastem), Michigan (Western), Mississippi (Northern), Mississippi (Southern)
North Carolina (Middle), Washington (Weslem), Wesl Virginia (Southern). Thanks.
Actually, the more you read through these emails -- the more obvious it is how deeply involved they were! I don't know how you evade prosecution here. It's so damn damning!
I went through document 13 of the RNC files and it had nothing of interest, I would expect this is an example of the chaffe they were using to bury whatever nuggets of real wheat there were to find in the emails as it was mostly an electronic edition of the National Review, and lots of polling data.
The only thing I found of interest was a table indicating where the potential POTUS candidates would be for each day of a week in March 2007. Of the 17 or so candidates in both parties, only one was on the campaign trail every single day, an obscure 1st term Senator from Illinois with a funny sounding name.
WHDocsPT9 p. 81 excerpt. Note the reference to circulating it to "Karl's shop."
From Kyle Sampson, DoJ, to Harriet Miers, WH, and William Kelley, copied to Paul McNulty:
We'll stand by by for a green light from you. Upon the green light, we'll (1) circulate the below plan to the list of folks in Step 3 (and ask that you circulate it to Karl's shop), (2) confirm that Kelley is making the Senator/Bush political lead calls, and (3) get Battle making the calls to the USAs. Let us know.
Missed this one just above the one I just posted. On the serious side, it shows consciousness of guilt. On the hilarious side, they didn't see it as a national story ... which it wasn't ... except for TALKING POINTS MEMO!!!

Its only six US attorneys (there are 94) and I think most of them will resign quietly - they don't get anything out of making it
public they were asked to leave in terms of future job prospects. I don't see it as being a national story - especially if it
phases in over a few months. Any concerns on your end?

First, it really isn't up to Jerry whether someone is retained as US Ally. The short answer is that his term was four years (and he serves at the pleasure of the President in any event), and the Administratin thought II a good thing to give someone else a chance to serve. In Ryan's case, I understand that DOJ believed that there were management problems in the office that justified the change in any event. I would tell him very little about the specifics, though. Also, it is highly inappropriate for Ryan to be calling folks and complaining - he absolutely serves at the pleasure ofthe President, and he should be grateful to the President for the opportunity to serve at all.
DOJ had the head of Executive Office of US Attorneys, which is responsible for management of US Attorneys around the country, call Ryan with the news, Jerry evidently is outraged that the AG or DAG didnl make the call. Maybe that is regrettable, but it was a management decision. Finally, I gather that Ryan is irked that he's got to find a job with little notice, and in a short time. In fact, he's been given till Januery 31, and I'm sure will be treated reasonably.

I learned that last night .. there are some Albuquerque GOP Lawyers who have put the knives in Bibb's back to get someone they know and like, and have had Domenici's ear he's been taken advantage of. I'll fill you in with more when I call you.
Because my email to you, copy to Bell, now puts Domenici's office in a an awkward position, I'll bet Bell will be in touch with you rathter quickly to put his spin on it. In the interim, I told Bibb to cll Bingaman's secretary and ask for the meeting. I hope you have the latitude to wait to see what comes out of a meeting with Bingaman .. if you can?
For what it's worth. a lawyer (who Domenici listens to) in the meeting with the Senator last night said "he (Bowles) wouldn't be my firstt choice." Then later he confided to me thot Bowles "acted like a pussy." I've never met the guy, but between that candor and his record of being a soft R, I can't imagine him doing the job we need done. How do things get so f__ked up?
In response to a NYTimes Editorial on 1/15/07, Politicizing Prosecutors, that questioned Tim Griffin's Arkansas USA appointment, Sara Taylor emailed Adam Nagourney, chief political reporter for the Times:

I know you don't control the editorial page, but it's unfortunate the NY Times didn't see fit to include that Tim is an Oxford educated lawyer, who served in Iraq. He's as qualified or more than any of the Clinton US attorneys. Someone took a call from Pryor's office and didn't bother to do any checking...

Yes -They should at least print a retraction, Tim has significant prosecutorial experience including as an Army Jag officer and at DOJ. Totally unfair characterization of him. Fine if you disagree w/ the Patriot Act's provision, but don't malign someone's qualifications when you clearly don't have the facts. It's sloppy and the NY times should not make these mistakes.
Thanks for listening. Really irritating and unfair.
