The Connecticut Insurance Department has begun an investigation into that Medicare mailer we told you about yesterday that tries to scare seniors into buying extra insurance by claiming that Congress has cut benefits -- right when the health care debate is dominating the news.

A copy of the mailer that went to a senior in Washington was sent by a direct mail firm, but listed an insurance agent, Tim Manry, who is apparently the Seattle branch manager for CT-based Futurity First.

Dawn McDaniel, spokeswoman for the Connecticut Insurance Department, which is responsible for regulating the insurance industry, sends along this statement:

The Insurance Department takes these allegations very seriously. Therefore, we have opened an investigation in this matter to ensure that CT residents are protected. If any Connecticut resident has received a similar notice from Futurity First, I urge them to contact the Insurance Department's Consumer Affairs Hotline at 1-800-203-3447 or e-mail us at cid.ca /at/ ct.gov

Futurity First and Manry have not responded to requests for comment.

These Corporate leeches and their GOP (the conservaDems, too!!!) lackeys have slipped below the bottom feeders in the "pond scum suckers" guild.....to think their is such ignorance, that half the country has been brainwashed into believing that these (Corporate) "people" should have the complete control and power of OUR government ("we the people's" government, taken away) from us in the name of a "competitive free-market" (that does nothing for any one, except for the very Corporate "people" who are sucking the life blood out of the workers, taxpayers, average citizens and our country

If corporations are to be treated as people, I think we have a candidate here for life imprisonment without parole.

Why aim low?
Death penalty can't be considered cruel and unusual against a non-physical entity.
It would also have a better likelihood of acting as a deterrent - particularly if the officers, directors, and owners all suffered financial losses as a result.

Manry would have been better off advocating a military takeover of the US government by disgruntled military officers over at Newsmax. Now he's going to have to deal with pissed off seniors.

Tough break Tim.

This suggests that perhaps the reporting party's mailer was one of a kind? Come on - it's a direct mail outfit. It's a simple matter to check their records to see how many were sent and how many of those were in CT - a matter of approx. 10 seconds. Unless of course, they're going to haul out the lawyers and suffocate the issue in legal paper. Simple logic dictates that if there is one, there are many.

I just got the SAME mailer today in Orange County, California, except that it refers to "insurance agent Pamela Prince of San Clemente, CA (CA Lic. 0604038)". The card suggests that I fill out the card with:
Name: ___
Date of Birth: ___
Spouse: ___
Date of Birth: ___
Phone: ___

I don't mind getting solicitations, which I can always discard, but I hate this kind of commercial fear mongering - especially with the rightwing anti-everythingers putting out so much misinformation about healthcare reform.
I think I'm going to see if I can find some contact info for Ms. Prince, and give her a piece of my mind about spreading lies to get leads.
