That birthermercial we told you about earlier is running in seven states, one of the men behind the program tells us.

Gary Kreep of the United States Justice Foundation says his group will decide soon on a second buy for the 28-minute program that asks late-night viewers to give $30 to have a faxes sent to government officials demanding Obama produce his birth certificate. As a thank you, contributors also get a special Birther bumper sticker.

The first buy covered Sept. 10 through Sept. 27.

For your viewing pleasure, here's the grand list:

  • Chattanoga, TN

  • Memphis, TN

  • Shreveport, LA

  • Springfield, MO

  • Abilene, TX

  • Lubbock, TX

  • Macon, GA

  • Savannah, GA

  • Huntsville, AL

  • Jacksonville, FL

  • Tallahasseee, FL

As to why Kreep's group, which is based in southern California, is targeting states in the South, he tells us only: "We used a vendor that booked the times."

LivePrayer.com, the fundamentalist online prayer hotline run by birthermercial host Bill Keller, is based in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Finally, here's the official TPMtv highlight reel of the birthermercial:

So here's the question: Who's paying for these infomercials? Even late-night in smaller markets, this isn't free. Follow the money.

Kreep, not spelled exactly right to testify to his true creepy nature, but the spelling is close enough for us to KNOW exactly the creepy sort of person this guy really is. Amazing how some seemingly bright folks can start this drivel and convince themselves that the entire birther issue is a legitimate one, and not just a bunch of racist blather. But I must say, in the end, this guy talks like a generic sort of racist. I detest racists who do not have the guts to just come right out and spew their racist swill. They seem to couch their problem in the most high minded rhetoric. But as my dear sainted mom used to say, if he talks like a racist, behaves like a racisst, even though he attempts to covers it very well, guess what, the guy IS a racist.

What a scam. For $30, they will send any sucker willing to pay the money a bumper sticker and they will put the sucker's name on a fax sent to all 50 state Attorneys General and to the U.S. Attorney General. Even if they send an individual fax for each sucker that pays the $30, the cost of sending the faxes and the bumper sticker is likely to be less than $5. That means they make at least $25 gross profit (before labor, etc., expenses) from each person who responds. Thus, it appears that their choice of markets in which to run this infomercial must be a reflection of their view regarding the gullibility and/or lack of intelligence of a significant portion of the likely viewing public in those markets.

This is hilarious! The blond guy looks like an aging Simon Baker and that hair cannot possibly be real. Plus, he's either wearing flesh colored socks or he is doing the loafers without socks, surfer dude look. And Gary Kreep? Sounds like a perfect subject for SNL's 'Really?!' segment.

It's so obviously a scam - $30 to send a fax? Really?

Barnum and Mencken had it right.

It's a scam for sure, but let's look on the bright side: They're scamming the right people - Southern dumbos - who would otherwise be sending that Social Security money to rightwing evangelists.

What a waste of money on his part. He's running it in 7 Southern states? Why? Are those Southern states on the brink of turning Democrat? How obviously stupid!

Paul Kiel reported on Kreep, the USJF and its affiliate, the Republican Majority Campaign, here in TPM Muckraker in March 2008.

The United States Justice Foundation hasn't filed a 990 since 2006.

This is pretty funny. The United States Justice Foundation is running the TPM Muckraker video on its website!

The 2007 USFJ 990 is online at Guidestar. Years 2001-2006 are available at the 990 Finder.

In 2007, the USJF spent $1.9 million on fundraising and raised $2.6 million. Only $631k went to program services. Well-known conservative fundraising firms, Richard Norman and American Caging, were the two highest paid contractors.

USJF president, Gary Kreep, and treasurer, Randy Goodwin, are on the board of the Western Conservative Political Action Conference, WCPAC, which organizes an annual conference. WCPAC 2009 features speakers Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty, Ralph Reed and Rep. Ed Royce. Last year, Tom DeLay was the featured guest.

The WCPAC board is made up of the usual cast of wingnuts who make a living by appealing to the baser instincts of the base. For example, Floyd G. Brown is probably best known for the Willy Horton ad along with Lee Atwater. Brown is associated with Citizens United, Reagan Ranch and Young Americas For Freedom, all right wing b.s. groups.

As someone who lives in Mississippi I'm both shocked and disappointed it's not playing here. But I guess they figure there's no since preaching to the choir.

Steve:

I think the reason may relate more to Mississippi's 50th rank in state average income more than any political considerations.

You want to aim your ripoff at those who are just gullible enough to fork over the money and who have sufficient extra money lying around to be able to do it. Which means Texas, Arkansas, Alabama, Florida.......

True but we're also the most generous state in the union in terms of charitable donations as a percentage of our income. At $30 a pop we'd be ripe for the pickings and conspiracy cocktail of one part politics and one part Antichrist is more than many here can resist.

This is silly stuff, but simple minds do simple stuff I guess.
For sure you don't want to look at Records related to HUD released to (Fri 9-29 pm) or NEA Propaganda arm of the Whitehouse: 10 US Code 1913, 31 US Code 1352, 5 US Code 7323 - Grants, Office of Management & Budget 501's ....
Hay, maybe you are doing your best with the birth thing...

I am so proud to have my nearby television market included in the list. In fact, I sent the clip to my Republican email list (not very long but lot's of fun- no pun intended) to ask them if they had contributed yet. So far no responses so that means that they probably have already done the dirty deed.

Tallahassee? They voted for Obama 62% to 38%. As well as having an African American population of over 30%

That's interesting about Tallahassee's vote count. I've been meaning to comment and say that Shreveport/Caddo Parish in Louisiana also went for Obama - one of only ten parishes in Louisiana to do so (we have 64), which is notable :D

I respectfully ask that a less disgusting picture be at the front of this, since it is everywhere. Nevermind. The other guy is even creepier. Why not have a big picture of a vagina with a baby's head coming out? It would be far more palatable than these 2 losers.

That's 2 Barack HUSSEIN Obama hating bumper stickers, 2 real-fake birth certificates, and twice the satisfaction that you've done something completely insignificant and wasteful with your money in this down economy!!

CALL 1-888-WING-NUT TODAY!

How many unemployed cretins from the south will be sending a chunk of their unemployment checks to these clowns instead of picking up another bottle of Thunderbird? As far as I can tell, no other audience will respond to this comedy.

I am guessing that this is a trojan horse to collect the indentities of anti-Obama activists so they can be eliminated. They will be captured by the black helicopters and relocated to one of Micky Bachmann's re-education facilities.

As I watched Bill Keller speak, I was reminded very much of John Larroquette, with a weird hairdo.

And I think of that 186-page document Kreep referred to being posted on TownHall.com, and it reminds me of nothing so much as Bill Frist diagnosing Terri Schiavo via videotape.

Yes, they are all SO credible. They so desperately cling to this one hope, not realizing there is not a thing they can do to overturn the 2008 election, including via the U.S. Supreme Court. And they thought (and screamed) Al Gore was a sore loser!
