Allen Stanford's jail woes continue. The accused $7 billion Ponzi schemer sustained minor injuries after getting into a fight last week, reports the Houston Chronicle.

It's not clear how the fight between Stanford and the other inmate got started. But the one-time billionaire banker looks to have gotten the worst of it -- he was the only one taken to the hospital, with bruising and other superficial injuries.

Stanford was returned to the Joe Corley Detention Facility in Conroe, Texas around noon yesterday.

Since going to jail in July, Stanford has complained about the conditions, including the heat, and has now twice been hospitalized, the first time because of an elevated heart rate. In addition, his one-time defense lawyer, the heavy-hitting Dick DeGuerin, has quit the case because Stanford, with his assets frozen, could not guarantee that DeGuerin would be paid.

Josh, Mr. Stanford used his money to make the life of many poor people in Antigua better. I have spoken to many people in Antigua. Please leave him alone.

Also, why is the Young Bush boy who caused the S&L failure not in jail? We lost almost a trillion dollars then. We instead rewarded the family by making W president. W has caused us over a trillion dollar in the Iraq debacle. Why is no one complaining? So called liberal media, eh?

Maddox was free on bond before his sentencing. The lesson is if you help poor people, Feds clamp down hard on you. They should set bell for him.

"Mr. Sanford" stole other peoples' money and made the lives of many Americans miserable. He deserves everything he's getting, and more.

Sorry, not defending "Sir" Allen, but I disagree. No one -- not the worst mass murderer, not a kid convicted of possession of a minor amount of marijuana, not Allen Stanford -- "deserves" to be beaten up in prison. The conditions in US prisons belie our reputation, such as it is, of a civilized country.

"Josh, Mr. Stanford used his money to make the life of many poor people in Antigua better. I have spoken to many people in Antigua. Please leave him alone."

Unfortunately, good deeds do not cancel out bad deeds in some sort of moral arithmetic. He broke the law in some very serious ways, and hurt a lot of people in tangible ways. Regardless, TPM is not really picking on Stanford, just reporting an ongoing news event of national importance.

"Why is no one complaining? [about GWB and Iraq and other misdeeds]"

GWBs never-ending shitification of the nation is probably the most complained about series of events on the Internet. Seriously, a lot of people are pissed off about GWBs collective misdoings, and have been pretty vocal about it. Not so much in the mainstream media as I would have liked, but these events have certainly not been ignored by the people.

"The lesson is if you help poor people, Feds clamp down hard on you."

I really don't think that is an accurate description of Stanford, the motivation of the fed, or the message it sends to others.

i'm guessing you mean madoff? you may recall that madoff confessed and plead guilty and a judge ruled that he did not pose a flight risk. you might also have noticed that madoff did not flee and therefor the judge was correct in that assessment.

stanford has plead not guilty and insists that he is innocent. a judge has determined that his extensive foreign connections make him a flight risk. i can't say i disagree with that assesment.

also, i don't recall anyone at tpm defending any of the bushes wrt the S & L debacle, so i'm not sure what your beef there is exactly. and it was neil bush who was on the board at silverado, not W. so your rant is illogical.

and your attempt to portray stanford as some kind of robin hood is just laughable. none of the impoverished antiguans would have seen a dime of the money that stanford stole if it weren't for antigua's corrupt banking system that depends on dealings with criminals like stanford.

In Sir Allen's defense, it must be awfully hard to get a round of cricket organized in the yard.

Good to see he's back in the prison population where he can go back to getting his proper daily "Rogering".
