The House Ethics Committee announced today it is launching full investigations into the actions of two House members, and clearing a third of any wrongdoing.

One of those being investigated is Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA). Waters allegedly set up a meeting between the Treasury Department and a bank which her husband held stock in and whose board he had served on. The bank later received bailout funds.

The committee is also investigating Rep. Laura Richardson (D-CA) for allegedly failing to disclose real estate and other assets and for accepting an improper gift and special treatment relating to the foreclosure of her home.

The third, Rep. Sam Graves (R-MO), was cleared. The committee found Graves didn't violate any rules by inviting someone to testify to a small business committee, a man who held investments in the same renewable fuel cooperatives as his wife.

Graves lashed out at the Office of Congressional Ethics for even investigating the anonymous complaint in the first place.

If they investigate Maxine rhey MUST investigate Evan Bye Bye and Joe LIEberman. Their wives are intimately involved with trying to derail healthcare.

At least with Maxine the bank has to pay the money back.

Jesus .... stuff moves SLOWLY in DC!!!!

What I find interesting is that Jefferson who stole about $90,000 was tried and convicted and went to jail in less than a year - while Tom Delay is still running around free. Ensign is still holding office.

Amazing how swift justice is for black people. I'm just sayin.....

I agree...which party has the majority?..is this some more blue-dog crap?....how come Evan Bayh and his wife Susan aren't being investigated for their Health Care Insurance ties...or Lieberman and his wife...or Kent Conrad...or Baucus..? This stinks..I see that progressives have still got a serious amount of work..get rid of the remaining Republicans and "axe" all the Blue-dogs...to bad lieberman isn't up for re-election 'til 2014(?) I wonder how many of these blue dog's states have a recall intiative...?

Lieberman is 2012, which will coincide with the presidential election, where Obama will win by a large margin. I can't really see the Dem establishment (especially Obama himself)standing behing Joe this time. I'd be curious if Joe will ask McShame to campaign for him?

As far as the ethic commitee mentioned in this article, it is the Hoouse Ethics Commitee, they can't investigate Bayh and Lieberman. And I don't think the answer to the problem is to "Axe" Blue Dogs. Sure they are frustrating, but gov't doesn't function well without a reasonable opposition party, and clearly repubs are not reasonable. Besides, we see repubs frustrated mith moderates in their own party and they are calling for idealogical purity, which is the best way to dwindle you numbers, I see that as counter productive. That said, obviously we don't allow the Blue dogs chair of any commitee that is important.

And the republican Problem, It's a short term one. The more they play to the hatred of minorities, especially Latinos, the more marginalized they become as demographics change.
