Perriello: Don’t Hide Behind Front Groups

We’re watching the Congressional hearings on those forged letters to lawmakers sent by an astroturf lobbying group working on behalf of a coal-industry lobby group.

And Rep. Tom Perriello, who received some of the forged letters and was first to testify, just had a nice flourish that’s worth highlighting.

Perriello said that, on an issue as important as global warming, it’s important to be up front about what you believe, whatever it is. If you’re a coal company, said the Virginia Democrat, it shows a lack of courage to instead join a coal-industry front group, which then hires a PR firm, which then hires an astroturf lobby firm, which then hires a temp, who forges a letter in support of your position.

An obvious point maybe, but nicely put.
