A Tea Party activist today used a U.S. military email address to call for "civil disobedience" in opposition to the policies of the Obama administration.
In a message sent this morning to fellow members of the Tea Party Patriots, who had been discussing movement strategy, Richard A. Correa Sr., who identifies himself as a retired sergeant, wrote:
Civil disobedience is the next logical step.
Correa's email, which was obtained by TPMmuckraker, was sent using a U.S. army address.
The email may in fact have been an effort to tone down the fervor among Tea Partiers. It appears to have been a response to a fellow activist, Carol Dietz, who, in her own email sent to the Tea Party group on Wednesday, had argued that the group needed to become more aggressive in its effort to resist the administration. Dietz compared the Tea Partiers to Jews in Nazi Germany, who, she said, "went like sheep quietly to their slaughter."
"The jews KNEW that they were the target of Hitler--this didn't happen over night, they had PLENTY of warning--and they didn't DO anything," Dietz wrote. "They went like sheep quietly to their slaughter--they did not fight." Dietz concluded: "WE NEED A REVOLUTION."
The rallying calls form Dietz and Correa seemed to inspire a third Tea Partier, Brian Bertha, who wrote:
I will not go quietly into the night I will stand and I will fight.
A post from July on a Tea Party website, under the byline Richard A. Correa Sr., calls for the creation of a third party movement, and slams Republican and Democratic officeholders for "stealing all the wealth of the nation to line their own pockets."
Correa did not immediately respond to a request for comment from TPMmuckraker, sent to his military email address.

Mooser,
one has to wonder if she sees Obama doing to the teabaggers what Hitler did to the Jews. Before The Final Solution, the Nazis passed a number of laws specifically targeting Jews, what today would be Bills of Attainder, forbidden by our Constitution (i think).
Anyhow, its useless to even address a wingnut or anything they say becasue they always have a comeback which satisfies them, regardless of how mindless the comeback.

Hmm, a bunch of people screaming hate for those who aren't white and Christian, claiming their country has been betrayed and stolen, threatening violence, sometimes carrying arms --- maybe not Jews, but they do seem a bit like somebody in Nazi Germany,

Except for the part where the people you're referencing were fist-fighting, truncheon-weilding thugs hardened to violence in the most brutal war in history rather than a bunch of doughy middle-aged lardasses with bad backs and shrieking old crazy ladies.
In insane times, you take your comfort where you can find it.

I can not express 'how many ways wrong' an infraction of military resources like this must be viewed, jumped on, and squashed...period. If we Americans continue to turn a blind eye on these illegal encrouchments, our military will become an arm of whatever political party is still standing after we're done taking the machete to our laws. Banana Republic, here we come. Let's face it...more and more, the only opportunity for employment for the former middle class will be the military.

He could easily be a civilian working for the Army. I work as a civilian for the Navy, and I have had a Navy.mil e-mail address for years.
Having said that, using a .mil e-mail address for blatantly political purposes is a violation of the Hatch Act. No way around that - major No-No.

So where and how does this violation get reported? Is there someone we can contact? Do we need a copy of this guys email address and the email he sent out?

Good question. If nothing else, I'm sure that there is a public affairs office at the Pentagon that specializes in answering this type of question (and Yes, a copy of the original e-mail would be needed). Ordinarily, I would report this fellow to his chain of command, but we don't know who that is.

My husband was a Sergeant who retired as a LtCol of the Marine Corps. He is a left wing liberal, but most of the other retired marines that we know are right wing nuts. Perhaps the Corps appeals to the type of personality that prefers an authoritarian leader and an easily identifiable enemy.
Or perhaps it is that Fox is on every TV set on every military base...

Am I confused?? I read the headline "Tea Partier Uses Army Email Address To Call For "Civil Disobedience". Thinking WTF this isn't cool, then I read "The email may in fact have been an effort to tone down the fervor among Tea Partiers." So what is it??? Since the writer hasn't posted the contents of the email I guess we have to guess.
Zoxx... from what I read this would not be in violation of the hatch act. As this appears to be between a few people. More on the lines of "water cooler talk" of course if it was to be sent out to a mass audience that would e different.
I think more credit should be given for the cooler head of the retired Sergeant. Then again... what did the email say exactly??

If you had three Postal employees around a water cooler in a Post Office and one was promoting a federal candidate and was overheard by a several others who opposed the candidate who was being promoted, A Hatch Act accusation could be made. It is a 'no no' to do it on the gov't's time or property. I still can't understand how Rove and Jennings got away with it. They even used gov't supplies and equipment.

I see your point however, I'm still not sure it would violate the Hatch Act. It would definitely be closer to a violation. In reference to the email in the article I referred to this document.

I see your point. I don't recall seeing that bit of Hatch Act info before. It's not a wasted day when I learn something.
I suppose the deciding factor here would be: Did he send the e-mail in question to one or two individuals or a distribution list of hundreds? That is information we don't have.

Yes Joe you pretty much nailed it. If real German patriots had nipped their tea baggers in the bud before they became a real force (the brown shirts), we would've avoided one of the worst episodes in human history.
Zealots of ANY type should be called out and derided for the unbalanced head cases that they are.

Ok... let me get this straight, so the so called "tea baggers" are "brown shirts"? Ok... as far as "ANY" goes, looking objectively at both at the left and right sides of the political spectrum. Are the other groups that fall under the category of Zealots?

absolutely...by the very definition of zealots. Notice how I understood what you were trying to ask? Even though your sentence structure would have got a frowning face from my 1st grade teacher.
“Are the other groups that fall under the category of Zealots?”
… and you were pissy enough to try to deride someones comment for an incorrect question mark.
Priceless.

Bill... Can you just relax a little... I agree with you on the sentence structure...kinda f'd the monkey on that one. It was definitely one of the oh crap moments for me. As I said, thanks for clearing it up. Really, on my first read I didn't quite get what Joe was saying. The question mark threw me off. Why do you assume a simple question to Joe was meant to deride him? Lastly, since you got the jist of my question... Who are the other groups that fall under the category of Zealots?

The salient issue is not that there are crazy people everywhere, but that there are so many of them here that it's getting more and more difficult for the Secret Service to keep track of them.

Stossel will most assuredly, fairly and with balance.... bull horn publicize during this event.... the list of GOP pol's signed up for Medicare whilst opposing it for the constituency, right?
"Rep. Anthony Weiner released an internal study showing that 151 members of Congress "currently receive government-funded; government-administered single-payer health care -- Medicare."
.... 55 are Republicans who also happen to be "steadfastly opposed {to} other Americans getting the public option, like the one they have chosen."
