OK, here's what should be the nail in the coffin for conservative claims that ACORN is poised to steal the New Jersey governor's race through rampant voter fraud.

Brian Kettenring, an ACORN spokesman, tells TPMmuckraker that the much-maligned group has conducted absolutely no political or voter registration activity in the state during the 2009 cycle. And Kettenring added that ACORN had done very little such work during the 2008 cycle.

In a column published yesterday in the Wall Street Journal, John Fund sounded the alarm about the threat from ACORN -- but a close look reveals that even here he was forced to rely on guilt by association to make the case.

"Groups associated with Acorn in neighboring Pennsylvania and New York appear to have moved into the state," Fund wrote.

Further down, he explained:

After repeated election-related scandals, Acorn has become toxic for many candidates who once relied on the group. But Acorn's longtime allies, the Service Employee International Union and New York's Working Families Party, have both moved into New Jersey. Peter Colavito, Acorn's former political director in New York and a board member of the Working Families Party, is now the political director of SEIU Local 32BJ, which is heavily involved in New Jersey's election.

In other words, a major labor union and a political party, both of whom are ACORN "allies," are involved in the New Jersey race. But as for ACORN itself, not so much.

Fund also wrote:

Elsewhere, an investigation is being conducted into a report that people wearing Acorn T-shirts entered an East Orange hospital near Newark carrying blank absentee ballots and left with completed ballots.

This "report" was in fact an email sent by the husband of a hospital worker, claiming that his wife had seen the ACORN workers in the hospital. And the hospital has denied it.

Not that the right is letting any of this get in the way of the vote fraud storyline. Conservative activist Patrick Ruffini tweets: "The fix may be in in NJ." If it is -- and there's not a a single piece of credible evidence for that -- it looks like it won't be thanks to ACORN.

Never let the facts stand in the way of a good rant.

The witch hunt against ACORN or anything ACORN is a mini McCarthyism on display

I heard that John Fund once lived in the same town as a child molester, therefore all Republicans want to have sex with children. How do these people sleep at night with logic like that?

Well I do know that he was involved in some domestic violence a few years back

From the Desk of John H. Fund

"Some of you may have heard about accusations that I engaged in domestic violence against a woman whom I had foolishly allowed to stay at my apartment when she ran into financial and other problems and had nowhere else to go in late 2001. These accusations and many others made by that same woman over the last four years are false. Under advice of counsel, I made no effort to defend myself publicly for many months while the authorities had an opportunity to examine the record and decide whether to prosecute. Since the charges were dropped last year, I am making available several documents which I believe will establish my innocence.

It is true that I had a short romance in 1999 with the then-31-year-old woman in question, who now admits to having been diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder. I paid a steep price for that profound error in judgment. There has been no intimate relationship between us since that time, although I foolishly attempted to be on cordial terms with her in order to smooth over her wrath.

I deeply regret that some female friends and acquaintances of mine were harassed without mercy on account of this woman's perception of my relationship to them, well-founded or imagined. Thanks go to all the friends and loved ones who have stood by me during this ordeal. You know who you are.

Sincerely yours,
John Fund

Democrats need to stop shunning ACORN and tell these wingers to f-off when they cast their false accusations. When your friends and allies are attacked, you defend them. When right wing voter groups are caught red handed the entire GOP circles the wagons around them. When false attacks are made on ACORN, dems toss them to the wolves.

Well OF COURSE they're going to SAY that. But true patriots know the ACORN menace is everywhere, secretly and fiendishly plotting to destroy our freedoms and pollute our precious bodily fluids -- not to mention providing illicit tax advice to fake prostitutes and their make-believe pimps.

An organization capable of destroying and enslaving the most powerful country in human history doesn't even NEED to be in Jersey to steal a gubernatorial election. They can do it by long distance, with their superhuman mutant telekinetic powers.

Hey, if ACORN says they weren't in New Jersey, then they weren't in New Jersey. If they say the Mickey Mouse is eligible to vote, then Mickey Mouse is eligible to vote. If they say Sam Jones can vote 9 times, then Sam Jones can vote 9 times. Thier word is gospel, because they wouldn't lie.

When the facts aren't on your side, mockery and sarcasm are always a valid alternative. You know, like accusing someone of being a "chicken" is a valid way to get them to jump off of something tall...

It's not merely sarcasm, it's sarcasm based on facts.ACORN workers have been caught registering the same person several times AND registering Mickey Mouse. Both are signs of a trustworthy organization.

The real story here is ACORN suddenly changed sides to support the frauds that led to the GOP victories today. I DEMAND INVESTIGATION! WAKE UP PEOPLE!

John Fund... has there ever been a right-winger who looked more like what he was? A creepy sociopath who will look you in the eye with a humorless smile and tell you lies while his buddies defraud and swindle you.
