The Billings Gazette in Montana has the latest from now-admitted conman Michael Hilton: asked to hand over four works of art to help pay a $700,000 judgment in a California real estate fraud case, Hilton claimed he had the flu and couldn't make it.

Hilton says those works of art, including a self portrait, a work by Hilton titled "Mother Theresa," and two stereographs, are his only assets. It's safe to say that even if Hilton ever does forfeit the art, it's not going to make a dent in the $1.1 million he owes in California for fraud judgements.

If he is so broke, where did he get he money for those Mercedes SUV's that were so much a part of the Hardin story and for his trips to and from Montana?

Follow the money back to where it came fom.

If there is any justice in this world, he would be assessed all his future earnings and be required to live on welfare.

One of his investors, a lawyer in CA, had personally signed off on the lease for the SUVs. So that guy was on the hook for them when Hilton didn't make any of the payments, and I think he flew out to Montana to retrieve them at some point. Hilton used the guy's house (which was apparently much nicer than Hilton's one-room basement rental abode) for meetings when wining and dining the Hardin folks when they flew out to CA to finalize the deal. Not sure exactly where on the investor/co-conspirator spectrum to place him.

So, sorry, no Blackwater/KBR/CIA involvement likely in this scam, if that's what you were hinting at.

Maziar Mafi, an APF investor, said he was surprised to hear of Hilton's sworn testimony.

"I am in actual shock," said Mafi, a Santa Ana, Calif.-based attorney who gave Hilton $35,000 and signed as a guarantor for the lease of two Mercedes SUVs for the company, a move that he said will cost him an additional $30,000 to get out of.

Mafi said that his surprise came not from the news that Hilton was insolvent and that APF was never much more than a Web site, but that Hilton actually testified to that effect.

"I don't blame anybody more in this deal than I blame myself. I'm the one who needs to watch out for me, and I didn't do that," Mafi said.

Incidentally, according to Hilton's testimony on Friday, Becky "I am being compensated" Shay never got paid. Just in case there was any lingering doubt on that point.

Well, time for him to warm a cot in the local jail then. IF you can't do the time then DON'T do the crime.
