We don't know if this is reason for hope, or just low comedy. But the right-wing think tank that published conservative author Dave Gaubatz's call for a backlash against the "Muslim community" has now scrubbed the line and replaced it with a call for a backlash against the "Muslim Brotherhood."

Here's how the passage of the Fort Hood Q&A with Gaubatz, the author of Muslim Mafia, read on Monday (see a screengrab of the original here):

Politicians, Muslims, and law enforcement are concerned about a 'backlash' against Muslims. Now is the time for a professional and legal backlash against the Muslim community and their leaders. Muslims know what materials are being taught in their mosques and they know many of the materials instruct young Muslims to kill innocent people who do not adhere to Sharia law.

And here's the version that is currently up on FSM's site:

Politicians, Muslims, and law enforcement are concerned about a 'backlash' against Muslims. Now is the time for a professional and legal backlash against the Muslim Brotherhood and their leaders. Muslims know what materials are being taught in their mosques and they know many of the materials instruct young Muslims to kill innocent people who do not adhere to Sharia law.

Even on its own terms, the new passage doesn't make a ton of sense, shifting from Muslims to Muslim Brotherhood and back to Muslims.

Several outlets picked up Gaubatz's comments after they were first reported by TPMmuckraker.

We've reached out to Family Security Matters to get their side of the story on this, but haven't yet heard back.

FSM says its mission is to "empower all Americans to become proactive defenders of our national security and community safety." Its board of advisors includes radio host Laura Ingraham, former Clinton CIA director Jim Woolsey, and GOP operative Barbara Comstock.

(Special thanks for catching the change goes to Summer Hararah, national security and civil rights program coordinator at the Asian Law Caucus.)

Apparently their plan is working - they already "empowered" this guy to commit assault against somebody who wasn't even Muslim.

Ironic that this should happen so close to an anniversary of Kristallnacht, isn't it?

There should be a non-violent backlash against the silence of the Islamic community. There are Mosques of hate across the country and at least 35 Islamic terrorist training camps here. Yet they are silent. By backlash I mean opposing, by speaking out.

Think a 911 Sized Attack Can't Happen Again? They are Already Here!~Video

Of course this site does not say a word about these issues and only attacks those that do.

It is easy to see why this story has legs with you fellow bloggers. But I will tell you what, if President Stupidly could sit in the pews at Rev. Jerry Wright's Church, listen to black hate speech and come away ready to protect and serve all Americans.
Most people dont carry that hate, it is possable to hate the act and not hate the actor.
We must support the president even when he act stupidly.
One down three to go!

Can you seriously call someone stupid if you can't speak basic English yourself? Maybe you should look in the mirror before you throw stones.

Oh, and as for people carrying hate...Glenn Beck anyone? Republicans have no room whatsoever to talk about hate speech.

Anyone seen any evidence to support Arnaud de Borchgrave's assumption that Hasan was a "9/11 truther"?

Family Security Matters has a history of this kind of shit. Back in August '07 one of their contributing editors, Philip Atkinson, published a column on their site calling for George Bush to declare himself President-for-life and rule as a dictator.

FSM's operators attempted to scrub away all trace of Atkinson from their Web site. They forgot the Google cache, which yielded up not only the lets-have-a-dictatorship column but also the one in which Atkinson called for all of the Mexicans in the USA to be "killed or enslaved", all of which I have saved on this very computer.

They're not just vile, spittle-flecked, virulent hatefreaks, they're also astonishingly stupid and inept vile, spittle-flecked, virulent hatefreaks.
