Prof’s Husband: We Went To Shooting Range In Weeks Before Killings

Amy Bishop with a police officer

The husband of the biology professor charged with killing three colleagues in Alabama tells the Chronicle of Higher Education that he and his wife had gone to a shooting range in the weeks before the Friday incident.

James Anderson, husband of Amy Bishop, told the Chronicle yesterday that Bishop borrowed the gun from someone she knew:

Mr. Anderson said he had told his wife he didn’t want the gun around the house because of their children, who range in age from 8 to 18. “Get rid of it,” he recalled telling her. “I didn’t want to have it. I didn’t feel we needed it.”

The new statements from Anderson appears to contradict what he told the Chronicle Sunday outside his home.

On Sunday, according to the Chronicle, Anderson said he was not “aware that his wife even had a gun.”

Meanwhile, in another apparent discrepancy in his story, Anderson told the AP Monday, “I really don’t know how she got [the gun], or where she got it from.”

The police have said Bishop did not have a permit for the gun she allegedly used in the shooting.
