Tea Party Patriots Leader Named To Time’s Top 100

Jenny Beth Martin

Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck have gotten more coverage for it, but another conservative member of Time’s 100 most influential people is a more interesting inclusion…

That’s Jenny Beth Martin, the Georgia-based co-leader of the Tea Party Patriots — perhaps the Tea Party faction with the strongest claim to grassroots authenticity.

The unassuming Martin was an early responder to Rick Santelli’s famous rant, and now acts as one of two group’s national co-ordinators and spokespeople — though she routinely stresses the leaderless, bottom-up nature of the movement.

As we’ve reported, this advocate for smaller government and lower taxes has had tax problems of her own, after her husband’s business ran into trouble in recent years — not that Time mentions it.
