TPMmuckraker has obtained Rep. Mark Souder’s (R-IN) resignation letter.
In the letter, addressed to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and dated May 18, Souder writes that his resignation is effective May 21.
Souder, a family values Republican, announced this week that he was involved in an extramarital affair with a part-time staffer and would resign. The staffer was hired to interview Souder for a Christian radio show and occasional videos that were posted on his House web site. In one, the two discuss the importance of abstinence.
“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the people of Indiana,” he wrote.
