The Manhattan District Attorney’s office announced today that John F. Haggerty Jr., a top campaign operative for New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, has been indicted for allegedly stealing $1 million in campaign funds.
D.A. Cyrus R. Vance Jr. said Haggerty was indicted on charges of “money laundering, grand larceny and falsifying business records,” according the AP.
The New York Times reports that spokespeople for Vance and Bloomberg declined to comment on the charges, but a source close to Bloomberg said that charges or a plea deal have been expected for a while.
