Former Bush Official May Just Get Probation In Geeks On Call Case

Scott Bloch, former U.S. Special Counsel in the Bush Administration, is facing a possible probation sentence this week after pleading guilty in April to misdemeanor contempt of Congress. Bloch is on trial in connection with his use of Geeks On Call to scrub his computer while he was under investigation for misusing his office.

Bloch’s sentencing was rescheduled from yesterday to Friday, and with his charges he could face up to six months in prison.

But the Washington Post reports that “prosecutors did not object to Bloch’s request for probation, noting that he has no criminal history and faces a likely sanction on his ability to practice law.”

Bloch is on trial for instructing the private tech group Geeks on Call to delete files from his computer in late 2006 when he headed up the Office of Special Counsel, which protects federal whistleblowers. Bloch was then under investigation for misusing his office and retaliating against employees.
