House Judiciary Commitee Releases Testimony From Torture Memo Author

Jay Bybee

The House Judiciary Committee today released the transcript of the testimony of torture memo author Jay Bybee.

You can get the full transcript here (PDF).

Bybee, a former lawyer in the Bush Department of Justice and now a judge on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, testified before the committee in May.

In the testimony, he stood by the memos, which argued that extreme interrogation techniques widely regarded as torture, including waterboarding, were legally permissible.

“We might have been clearer in some places. But, in terms of the analysis, I am going to stand by the memo,” he said.
