Alleged Muslim Cabbie Slasher Accused NYC Cops Of Persecuting Him For Being Irish-Catholic

Michael Enright

The aspiring film student who allegedly stabbed a cab driver because he was a Muslim told cops that he was being prosecuted because of his Irish heritage and faith when he was arrested last month.

“You’re prosecuting me because I’m Irish Catholic,” Michael Enright told cops, according to new court documents revealed Wednesday, the New York Daily News reported.

He later said he was Jewish, and told police they were “going to ruin the entire Jewish race” by locking him up. He also called himself a patriot, accused an officer of allowing Muslims to blow up buildings, asked for his mother and claimed that he only stabbed the driver in self defense.

“That man just tried to rob me, he wanted to rob me, I used self-defense,” Enright allegedly told cops during his Aug. 25 arrest for allegedly stabbing Ahmed Sharif. “He was holding me against my will. What did I do wrong? I just came back from Afghanistan.”

In a previous court appearance, Enright’s lawyer argued that his client should be let out on bail because he was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and alcoholism.

The Justice Department is investigating the alleged stabbing. A DOJ official has said recently that Muslims have been subjected to an unjustified backlash, and a Muslim group said the event should serve as a warning about anti-Muslim rhetoric.
