Jones On Koran Burning: ‘Not Today, Not Ever’ (VIDEO)

Pastor Terry Jones

Pastor Terry Jones said this morning that his church has canceled its planned Koran burning permanently.

“Not today, not ever,” Jones said on the Today show this morning after flying to New York last night. “We’re not going to go back and do it. It is totally canceled.”

“We feel that God is telling us to stop,” he said. He said his mission was to show that “there is an element of Islam that is very dangerous and very radical. I believe that we have definitely accomplished that mission even though we have not burned one Koran.”

Jones said he hopes to meet with Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, who is planning to build an Islamic center and prayer space near Ground Zero. No such meeting, he said, has been scheduled. Jones said he won’t burn any Korans even if the center is built as planned.

Rauf said yesterday he’d consider meeting with anyone “seriously committed to pursuing peace.”
