Jon Stewart last night had some fun at Rep. Charles Rangel’s (D-NY) expense, offering his analysis of some of the finer moments of the congressman’s ethics hearing.
“A couple of things,” Stewart said. “One: you’ve been in Congress 40 years, you were chairman of the all-powerful House Ways and Means Committee, and you still don’t know you’re not supposed to stand up while testifying at a Congressional hearing? C-SPAN’s got one camera angle!”
“And number two: You’ve been under investigation for two years, how do you not have a lawyer?”
Rangel yesterday was found guilty of 11 counts of ethics violations by the House ethics subcommittee. Another hearing will be held by the full ethics committee, which will then recommend any possible punishment for Rangel. Read TPM’s full coverage of Rangel’s ethics hearing here.
