Quayle Picks Up Whistleblowing Former Souder Staffer

Rep.-Elect Ben Quayle (R-AZ)

Rep.-Elect Ben Quayle (R-AZ) has brought on Renee Hudson, the former chief of staff of adulterous former Rep. Mark Souder (R-IN), to be his new chief of staff. Hudson reportedly brought news of Souder’s dalliance to GOP leadership after confronting her boss.

Daniel Newhauser of Roll Call reports that Hudson, then called Renee Howell, served as Souder’s chief of staff for seven years before he resigned in May after his extramarital affair surfaced. Souder, a family values advocate, had previously recorded a video with his mistress emphasizing the value of abstinence.

But the Souder-Quayle connection runs a little deeper. Souder told the Christian WORLD magazine back in June that Ben Quayle’s father, Dan Quayle, advised him after his 1994 election to move his entire family to Washington with him. Souder said he regretted not heeding his advice.

Hudson said at the time she was “shocked” by the revelations about Souder, and confronted him about it.
