Michael Scanlon Likely To Serve In Florida Prison, Be Evaluated For Alcohol Abuse

Michael Scanlon

A federal judge ordered last week that Michael Scanlon should serve his 20-month sentence in the lowest security prison facility at the Bureau of Prisons facility in Pensacola, Florida.

The judge’s order on Friday also said that the prison facility “should also consider evaluating Scanlon for treatment in its alcohol abuse program while he serves his sentence there.”

Scanlon, who was a major player in the Jack Abramoff scandal that took down his former boss Tom DeLay, has also been barred from traveling to his luxury property in St. Barts.

Scanlon may also have to pay more than $20 million in compensation to several Indian tribes as well as Abramoff’s former lobbying firm Greenberg Traurig. Scanlon is disputing whether he should be forced to pay the firm.
