Inmate Allegedly Offered To Pay $500K For Kidnap Of Michigan State Representative

State Rep. Barb Byrum (D-MI)

A prisoner in jail for witness intimidation, assault and first-degree home invasion allegedly tried to offer a hitman $500,000 to kidnap, torture and possibly murder Michigan State Rep. Barb Byrum (D), MLive.com reported.

“Because this is an active and ongoing investigation, and to protect the privacy of my family, I will be making no further comments about this matter. I do want to thank the Michigan State Police for uncovering this plot,” she said in the interview with the website.

Another inmate told authorities about the plot and they then arranged a sting to record the plot, according to the website. The inmate, who will not be named until his arraignment, was served with an arrest warrant on Tuesday. He’s currently under incarceration on a solicitation to commit murder charge from 2006 and allegedly has a history of similar crimes.
