California Man Gets Five Years For Planned Parenthood Firebombing And Mosque Vandalism

A California man was sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to firebombing a Planned Parenthood clinic and vandalizing a mosque.

Donny Eugene Mower was ordered to serve five years, with three years of supervised release, as well as pay $26,000 in restitution.

Mower pleaded guilty in October to one felony count of malicious damage to property by means of fire or an explosive, one misdemeanor count of damaging religious property, and one misdemeanor count of damaging the property of a reproductive health services facility.

He admitted that in August, 2010, he put a sign in front of a mosque in Madera that said “No temple for the god of terrorism at ground zero. ANB,” which stands for American Nationalist Brotherhood. The sign was referring to the proposed Park51 Islamic center in downtown Manhattan. Mower also admitted that he threw a brick through the mosque’s window.

According to the plea agreement, Mower also put a sign outside of a Planned Parenthood in Madera that said “Murdering children? That is your choice? Reap your reward. ANB,” and a few days later threw a Molotov cocktail through the window.

“This sentence sends a powerful message that the Justice Department will not tolerate violent interference with the lawful work of reproductive health clinics or attacks on places of worship of all faiths,” said Thomas E. Perez, Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division, in a press release.

Five years for FIREBOMBING?!

In California under "Three Strikes" we put them away for 25 years on a shoplifting charge.

Powerful message, yeah.

They call themselves the ANB because KKK is too hard for them to spell.

Sentencing laws ARE inconsistent and illogical, and no one should be imprisoned for simple drug possession. But five years in prison for throwing a brick in one empty building and a molotov cocktail in another ain't exactly a walk in the park.

You left out the intent to terrorize. steatopygiaphile

steatopygiaphile Whether or not anyone was killed this time, there was the potential there, if only to the first responders. Terrorism should be dealt with harshly, hopefully it is five years federal, so he doesn't get out early. He should serve each day.

This is what teabaggers, which include a section of Ron Paul crowd, mean when they say words like freedom and liberty and cry for government to stay out of their lives and keep away from their guns. This guy probably is a freedom fighter and a hero in teabagging circles

You just made all that up. Unless you have the power to read minds and something tells me you don't have that power, there is no way you could know that.

I'll take page out of your book and just assume you're a knee jerk leftist reactionary who thinks abortions should be handed out for free at the mall. You probably think all humans should be exterminated for the good of the whole earth, right?

Seems like a light sentence for a terrorist who didn't need the FBI to entrap him before he became one.

I'm sorry "steatopygayophile" since when is fire bombing buildings and religious institutions okay by American society? Whether they had people in them at the time or not is POINTLESS they were TARGETED because they represent CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS of groups this moron didn't like. They weren't random building you stupid, stupid, hateful person....

Is it me, or is it just incredibly sad that people like this pretend to believe in the Constitution yet believe all Muslims are terrorists and have no right to live in the USA.... and somehow women's health clinics providing pap tests are killing people..... or that fire bombing buildings is something that doesn't deserve jail time......

steatopygiaphile 5 pts

andrewrbussiere "Whether they had people in them at the time or not is POINTLESS..." Really? This is exactly what I'm getting at. You're more concerned with punishing motive than the act itself that you can't see the forest for the trees. If he had roasted a dozen people he would deserve punishment for that as well, not his views on Muslims or abortion.

steatopygiaphile 5 pts

andrewrbussiere And who said firebombing buildings was okay or that these crimes were random, genius. You must really be deranged to believe you can intuit and ascribe ulterior motives and positions to me merely because I disagree with other's desire to treat this guy as a greater threat than he really is.

MUSLIMLOVERMUSLIMLOVERMUSLIMLOVERMUSLIMLOVER. As i write this, Christians all over the world are being killed and there Churches burned to the ground while apologists like you absolutely refuse to say one word about it. The fact that Islam calls for the killing of gays and the oppression of women still wont get the Left to come out of their denial. You are either all cowards or being payed off by the Muslim Brotherhood. Your behavior is shamefull. andrewrbussiere

rosaleewells 82 pts

Howienica. Wow. Muslimlover. Is that like, back in the 50s when they'd call people that hung out with black folks n****erlovers? Naughty girl.

steatopygiaphile 5 pts

howienicaandrewrbussiere This isn't exactly the place to speak out against "the brutality of Muslims." Still, when confronted with daily occurences of beheadings, slicing off of girl's clits, acid in the face of unveiled women, public executions of homosexuals and the stoning to death of female adulterers, most liberals will bend over backwards to distinguish between "extreme" and "moderate" Muslims. Yet they don't think twice about bashing "white Christian males" or "teabaggers" whenever some angry lone nut goes off the deep end.

steatopygiaphile 5 pts

Evidently posters who think this "white Christian male" got off easy think two empty buildings suffer more than a guy doing 5 years in prison. I know you'd love to see every little angry white man detained at Guantanamo indefinately, but try to maintain some perspective here. These were two uninhabited structures; not jets, skyscrapers or the Pentagon. When the late night AM radio listening crowd start beheading infidels I may take you idiots seriously.

Kristin126 1009 pts

howienica 22 pts

You apparently also believe in the killing of gays and the oppression of women or you would be speaking out against the brutality of Muslims in Egypt and Nigeria murdering men, women, and children just because they decided to become Christians. Your selective moral outrage leaves you with no credibility. steatopygiaphile Kristin126

andrewrbussiere 757 pts

steatopygiaphile Oh right.... he wasn't targeting PEOPLE with this crime he was CLEARLY just trying to fire bomb some buildings.... They were probably just random building too, no hate crime or anything right?

It's attitudes like yours that help promote hate crimes like this and sentiment across the globe that America's cultural ideology is one based on hate and discrimination of non-Judeo Christian religions. What EXACTLY does this guys act of terrorism have ANYTHING to do with 9/11? How the HELL does abortion equate to terrorism? And WHO the hell has been beheaded in America?

You're a POS without a clue. Your opinions aren't based on reality and you promote the EXACT same kind of hate the extremists who attacked the US represent.

As George Bush said "America is not at war with Islam". Apparently YOU are.

steatopygiaphile 5 pts

andrewrbussiere Reducing complex sociopolitical issues to a matter of "hate" is as simplistic as blaming it on "sin". People like you would have been witch burners 300 years ago.

Says the guy defending the fire-bombing of a women's health clinic and religious institution.....

You ignore the fact that YOU are the one defending the trampling of America citizens rights. YOU are the one pissing on the Constitution. And attitudes like YOURS are not accepted in American society.

YOU and YOUR views are a pathetic and hateful minority. Your ignorance shows through in your nonsensical comments and pathetic conversational deflection.

steatopygiaphile 5 pts

andrewrbussiere You are so concerned with ALL people rights [sic] that you ascribe false positions and motives to someone who opposes a irrational lynch mob attitude so you can berate them for it. You're so fundamentally conformist it's pathetic.

And your personal ideology is based on hate and discrimination of Christians, Jews, Mormans, Hindus and every religion except Islam. You are disgusting, and a world class hypocrite. andrewrbussiere steatopygiaphile

rosaleewells 82 pts

howienica, it's obvious you're very bigoted against Muslims. Every religion has done horrific crimes against humanity. Look at Christianity. The genocide of the Native American, the Holocaust, the rape of 50,000 Bosnian Muslim women, the genocide of hundreds of thousands of Bosnian Muslims and the killings of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis after we invaded their country. That wasn't gratitude I heard as I was leaving after my last tour. Unless, "you killed Saddam and gave us a hundred Saddams," is gratitude. This is why I am a happy atheist. Because religion, especially the three Abrahaimic religions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam are so violent. Calm down. A good Christian girl like you needs to remember the love of Jesus.

Teats,

antistuff 27 pts

steatopygiaphile So if someone was in the bldg and was badly burned or killed you would think differently about his sentence?? And likewise, if the 9/11 terrorist hit an empty pentagon & WTC then their intent is not as bad???? You are swimming in a LOGICFAIL of epic proportions.

steatopygiaphile 5 pts

antistuff "...then their intent is not bad???" Who said that? You're ascribing positions I've never expressed. Intent and motive are two different things. I'm saying Mower should be treated for what he is: a vandal and an arsonist. If murder had been his intent, then he should be treated accordingly. But treating him like a member of a global hostile militant network just because he had politically charged motives doesn't make any sense, unless you want him punished for his politically charged views.

marconickolas 552 pts

steatopygiaphile

No, but I would like to see you detained indefinately at Gitmo.

snig 134 pts

So say if someone firebombed your house and your parents house. They'd previously threatened you and them. But you and they weren't home. Or your church, and then your parent's church. How many years would you recommend they serve in prison? Would you have the same concern about the bombers well being?

steatopygiaphile 5 pts

You're confusing intent with motive. They are two different things.

texas-aggie 233 pts

steatopygiaphile No, intent and motive are linked, not different. His intent was to burn a couple of buildings belonging to groups that he didn't agree with. His motive was to express his disagreement by burning a couple of buildings belonging to people he disagreed with. In other words, he picked the particular buildings because of hate, and he damaged them for the same reason.

Trying to parse differences in word meanings is irrelevant in this particular case because we are dealing with emotions, not word definitions. Debating the meaning of "motive" and "intent" are exercises for high school debate teams, not people who are living in an environment where people like this jerk run around loose.
