Former Ambassador To Iraq, Afghanistan Ryan Crocker Arrested For Hit And Run, DUI

Ryan Crocker, who served as ambassador to Iraq under President George W. Bush and as ambassador to Afghanistan until last month to President Barack Obama, was arrested by the Washington state patrol earlier this month on hit-and-run and DUI charges, KXLY reports.

The 63-year-old allegedly crossed two lanes of traffic, hit a semi and continued to drive on the afternoon of August 14. He was issued a field sobriety test and had a .16 blood alcohol content, which is twice the legal limit. Another test registerd a .152 BAC, according to KXLY. Crocker pleaded not guilty to both the hit and run and DUI charges, which each carry $1,000 bail. His next hearing is scheduled for September.

Crocker stepped down last month as ambassador to Afghanistan because of unspecified health issues. He had worked with the State Department overseas for four decades. He is currently on leave from Texas A&M, where he served as dean and executive professor of the Bush School of Government and Public Service.
