Murfreesboro Mosque (Finally) Opening On Friday

After a two year legal battle, arson and a bomb threat, the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro will finally open its doors on Friday after the Justice Department sued the county to allow the newly constructed mosque to open its doors.

Officials in Rutherford County, Tennessee issued a temporary occupancy permit allowing the building to be used while a permanent permit is pending, the Associated Press reports.

“We’re thrilled,” board member Saleh Sbenaty told the AP. “We hope everybody will be as happy and thrilled as we are.”

Opponents of the mosque weren’t happy.

“History will one day judge whether we were wrong about this mosque, or whether we were right all along,” Kevin Fisher, the lead plaintiff in a lawsuit that claimed Islam wasn’t a religion in an effort to stop the construction of the mosque, said in an email to the AP.
