Former Rep. Randall “Duke” Cunningham, also known as federal prisoner #94405-198, has been released from prison in Arizona and into a halfway home in New Orleans, according to Bureau of Prison records.
Cunningham, a former California Republican, resigned from Congress in 2005 and pleaded guilty to accepting at least $2.4 million in bribes and underreporting his income. He is scheduled to be released June 4, 2013. A federal prisons spokesman told the U-T San Diego newspaper that Cunningham was transferred to the halfway home on Dec. 5.
Cunningham asked a federal judge to restore his right to own a weapon earlier this year so that after he is released from federal custody he could hunt, fish and protect himself from rabid cougars. He has said he regretted signing a plea deal with the government.
